sociable cycle ride Saturday July 7th 10am

Recommended Posts

This ride starts and finishes at the Dulwich Clock Cafe SE21 7BQ. It starts at 10am and ends at 12 noon and is affectionately known as the Crystal Palace Loop.

It starts by heading downhill to Peckham Rye Park then over to Ladywell Fields. Then it turns south along the Waterlink Way which tracks the River Ravensbourne all the way to Cator Park in Beckenham.

Finally west through Penge and into Crystal Palace Park, round past the dinosaurs, up to Crystal Palace Parade. I will not try and kid you that this route is flat there are some short steep bits that riders are welcome to walk.

Getting to the top becomes all worthwhile when you reach the lovely long downhill down Fountain Drive and College Road back to Dulwich Park. That's 11 miles in two hours, mostly quiet roads or paths.

The map is here:

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists which is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. They are free, friendly, as welcoming as Bruce can make them and everyone can come. You don't need to live anywhere or join anything. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk

    • Skateboarding is so misunderstood...it is more technical than ballet and the use of drink is not very compatible with a  practise that requires rare dedication and degrees of skill and coordination impossible with alcohol and for most people... impossible at any time. The mutual support and encouragement in that culture is something to be valued.   My Godson's friend had just taken his life which really put things into perspective for me. being trapped alone in a bedroom instead is not great for mental health...   think of the access previous generations had to no mans land.     London has always been a place where wealthy corporate areas remain next to areas of interesting creativity.  The skateboarders beneath south bank centre have a constant audience of tourists;  places like that keep London from becoming stagnant and cold.
    • Another endorsement for Greg. I called him first thing after water started dripping through my kitchen light fitting. He came straightaway, immediately understood the issue and fixed it. Incredibly efficient, neat and tidy, and charged a competitive rate. Will definitely be calling him again and would highly recommend.
    • Because . ...? What would your unromanticised film version of the skate park be? Are you saying that what it portrays is wrong in some way?
    • If memory serves me right, it wasn't vandals, it was either council or landowners.
