Mrs TP
Drove past today and noticed funky new signs and, at a fleeting glance, what looked like vintage toys (?) in the window in the property next to Badger Bakery. Is it a new shop / art gallery?Ta. aspidistra
Claims to be a charity shop. But no sign of anything mentioning any charity in particular, or the name of any charity, as far as I can see. Manchurian
405 is a charity shop for The Windsor Walk Housing Association which has opened the shop on its 21st. birthday. There's a brass plaque on the side of the door. WWHA was set up by three doctors from the Maudsley who were concerned about next steps for former patients and established safe housing in the area for them where they do not have to 'move-on' from. They have 3 houses around ED and this new shop 405 with a flat for tenants above. It is a normal charity shop and the entrance to the shop is through the arch at the side of the shop window. They have some space at the back there which they hope to use for community purposes as a venue too. They've been getting on quietly providing for the patients for years but realised it's time they were a bit more involved in the community as a whole and less quiet about their wonderful work. Do support them and hopefully you'll find their shop and space welcoming. I live in ED near one of their properties and do some voluntary work for them. As for vintage toys - alas - I don't think anything that exciting has been donated yet but they live in hope. It did look like toys though in that first window display on opening a couple of weeks back. steveo
405's jolly nice ladies relieved me of fifty quid last week - a brass fire screen and some hand painted china. And they gave me a lolly. Very tasty it was too.I remember buying some excellent boots there about twenty years ago Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19607-405-lordship-lane-what-is-it-all-about/#findComment-475506 Share on other sites
