sociable cycle ride Saturday June 9th

Recommended Posts

This free easy-paced two-hour cycle ride starts at 10am in Deal Porter Square next to Canada Water Library and opposite Canada Water Station (SE16 7AR) and finishes in the same place at 12noon.

The plan is to use two of the new Quietways to get to the South Bank and back. From Canada Water the group will take a short ride past Greenland Dock and along Oldfield Grove to connect with Quietway 1 at the start of the Millwall Path. The route then follows Quietway 1 past The Den aka Millwall Football Stadium, over the Connect 2 Bridge and then on quiet streets to the South Bank (passing the Old Vic theatre on the way).

For the return a short ride takes everyone to Superhighway 6 where they will reach the start of Q14 at Nicholson St. Quietway 14 is a work in progress, but everyone can enjoy the two new modal filters keeping out motors at Gt Guildford St and Newcomen St and the new crossing of Tower Bridge Rd.

Sadly that is where Q14 ends at present. It is planned to continue mostly on the existing National Route 4 alignment and the ride will follow this to the Albion Channel, turning off there to return to Deal Porter Square.

Q1 and Q14 are useful routes that provide safe passage east-west across north Southwark. Q1 is already heavily used and probably when complete Q14 will be just as good. Route is 9 miles and flat, map at https://goo.gl/kV6jUB Everyone welcome, totally free. Organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Accept no substitutes.

June 9-17th is national BIKE WEEK. This ride is part of Bike Week http://bikeweek.org.uk/. There's lots of other stuff going on including Southwark Cyclists Bike Breakfast, Thursday June 14th, 7.30am onwards on Quietway 1 at the junction of Dunton Rd, Willow Walk and Lynton Rd.

For more information about Southwark Cyclists including the Bike Train and Bike Taxi escorted rides and the Dr Bikes (free bike maintenance) on Quietway 1 and under Peckham Arch, see https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/

    • I’d also like to reiterate the above. I called Paul after seeing the recommendation here. He came the next day. Found a fix for a problem with the wiring for my fridge/freezer. He was quick to respond, totally constructive and very reasonably priced. Paul will now be my go to electrician and I’d be happy to recommend him. Kate (Paul Edgley 07802 627967)
    • Please get in touch, I have your belongings.
    • We left behind a Brickhouse fabric tote bag (white, black handles) with a sketchbook and pastels/markers/ brushes at Perks & White at Herne Hill station yesterday at about 8.45am. Sadly it has not been handed in to the Cafe or station staff. The drawings and sketches are a collection we have built over a long period so of huge sentimental value. If anyone comes across this would be grateful if they could let me me know. A photo of the sketchbook and bag behind attached (just before I realised I had left it behind) Many thanks!
    • I was under the impression that a local councillor lives in that street. Presumably then, the council are already aware.
