Brendan
Sorry my last post sounds a bit arsey. Not intentional. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1940-william-rose-butchers-lounged/page/3/#findComment-55588 Share on other sites
Quaywe
Sounds like Turkey is about to be sold at a premium thanks to the Xmas bird Flu outbreak. Fancy that, having to pay top dollar for the privilege of risking contracting bird flu.Ham anyone? sleepless
Last Christmas I was treated like a very unimportant customer by WR. Being Scandy, I wanted to get a particular cut of meat for our Christmas dinner which would require the butcher to step out of his comfort zone. I went in in October to discuss this with the main man there - first off he said he wouldn't do it then he said he would and that he would have to cut it from a whole pig for me but he would do it if I came back two weeks prior to needing it. I did this - he refused to serve me saying he was too busy and I could speak to one of the others before barging past me out of the shop. The person I then spoke to said that he wouldn't do it and there i was without the cut of meat I needed. I ended up going to smithfields where they were able to help me with no attitude and no palming me off with alternative cuts which were already in the back room. I do like the meat from WR but they can stuff their surly attitude in their 'only for regulars' christmas turkeys butt. I am now an 'irregular' user but wouldn't dream of trying to order a turkey or anything else from there as I am not keenon being made to feel not in exclusive club! Clazza
They have always been really quick, efficient, helpful & friendly. No complaints from me, good bit of banter & no not a frequent regular. MrBen
I reckon anyone will be lucky to find a Turkey this Christmas anyway. Tonights Standard "Turkeys to cost ?100 this Christmas".So surely this is the year of the.... er, Goose! There are also a few ducks up in the park that look good eating. Annasfield
We always have Goose, it's far nicer than Turkey. Anyone have any idea of the cost of a Goose at William Rose? Generally, we buy our Goose on Christmas eve. I remember two years ago in Farnham, Sainsbug's "the best" Geese were all reduced to get rid of them. Bargain! ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1940-william-rose-butchers-lounged/page/3/#findComment-55725 Share on other sites
mockney piers
Yep, goose all the way. Louisa
I am having Goose, Duck and Ham, a kind of posh homemade carvery if that makes any sense (I wont be getting the meat from WR though!!). *Bob*
I didn't realise Iceland did Geese, Louisa? That's going to be one hell of a tin to get open. Louisa
Iceland have in previous years sold whole frozen geese, they always have Duck, sometimes even fresh and stuffed. A lot of people underestimate this place. Louisa
Shooting apples off of trees I would imagine to be quite a long winded task with very little to show for your efforts at the end. Do you take the bullets out before creating a nice fruit salad? *Bob*
Anyway - I don't want to pull this debate into the lounge. So back on track. Anyone who thinks WR is anything other than a great local butcher must be mad as a hatter. There.. I've said it. That said, my 'favourite' staff member has recently departed.. sniff. snorky
Judging by the response Mrs Snorky got last time shes was in WR, I would suspect the thread will have to be translated into strip cartoon format for the WR staff to take in*runs away* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1940-william-rose-butchers-lounged/page/3/#findComment-55774 Share on other sites

CamberwellOz
Guy Sparkes in the van has much better quality meat and is always willing to help. You should try some of his stuff. He also has a shop as well. I have never had a bad cut of meat from him.
