Lack of maintenance in Peckham Rye Park

I suppose Southwark also have to take on board all the rubbish that is left in parks by people on a daily basis. What would happen if this isn't collected? There has to be some give and take but the weather has a lot to answer for about the weed growth etc.

18,789 posts on the EDF internet forum suggests you might have some free time (if it were a priority for you).

How rude.


As I said, I am busy. There are lots of things I would like to do if I had the time. Why should I stop posting on here? It is a break from other things, and keeps me in touch with what is going on locally. Since I have lived here a long time I am presumably allowed an interest.


You must have a lot of time on your hands if you could be bothered to look up the number of posts I have made just to have a go at me.

Bit rich coming from someone who has to look up how long someone's been on the forum if you think he or she has said something that you feel might be not to your liking?

Not sure it really matters - can we return to subject of Peckham rye park.


I went to Sexby garden yesterday and it seemed in reasonably good nick.

Perhaps somebody has spent some time on weeding it since I started the thread, then. Hopefully so :)

Well yes, most places are green and lush due to all the rain we had earlier combined with the spells of hot weather.


Unfortunately much of the greenness and lushness in the park borders is (or was when I started the thread) weeds.


For those who aren't gardeners, the problem with weeds is not just that they can look very unsightly in what are supposed to be ornamental borders, but that they compete with the plants which are supposed to be there for space, nutrients and light.


Also, they self seed all over the place and within a very short time what started off as a few weeds have taken over the whole of the space.

Afraid not. Walked through the Sexby Garden today and the beds are full of weeds. Bind weed chocking all the roses. Spoke to one of the gardeners & apparently there are fewer staff & they keep being given ?projects? to do rather than general maintenance & weeding.

Who is giving them these "projects", do you know? (and do you know what they are?)


Surely if there is somebody in charge it should be someone with a basic grasp of the need to keep on top of maintenance?!

      Thank goodness for Greg. I had an awful situation whereby I was notified that water was leaking from my flat into the flat below me. I was 150 miles away at the time and had a panicked journey home not knowing what I was going to face.   I called Greg (after seeing reviews on the forum) as soon as I arrived home in the evening and he arrived just after 10pm and was able to shut off the problem. He had to come back to finalise the job which turned out to be caused in a communal area whereby there was a blockage in the stack pipe.   Greg worked quickly, efficiently and informed me every step of the way as to what he was doing and why. He also cleaned up really well afterwards.  Greg's charges are very reasonable and he will definitely be my "go-to" if I have any other plumbing issues in the future.

      Another recommendation for Nick. Copying below the review I have just left for him on Google: We don’t usually leave reviews for people online but are making an exception for Nick. He made fitted wardrobes for our loft conversion and did an absolutely fantastic job. The wardrobes are beautiful. Nick is passionate about producing a quality product, and also one that is bespoke to his clients’ needs. He guided us through the design to establish how we would actually use the space and built something that is fantastic. From start to finish the process was quick and each day he and his assistant Sean left the space tidy. I’m not sure we are easy people to please so the fact we are leaving a 5* review (indeed leaving a review at all) speaks volumes about what a great job Nick (and Sean) did. Nick also built a cupboard for our downstairs bathroom as part of the job and again it is brilliant. We would recommend them to anybody.
