To black guy in a black car (Dunstans Road, 5/9/11 6:20am)

Ignore Huguenot!

What you wear is never an excuse for violence (especially H, when you say, "dress in such away that you affiliate yourself with a far-right white supremacist group" I would query whether you have ever walked down Old Compton Street, or seen a Communards video?)

Make like the slutwalkers!

Skinwalk!

I didn't say it was an excuse for violence.

In fact I don't think anything is an excuse for violence - perhaps except for self-defence.

I'm just saying that we commincate an entire dictionary of things about ourselves by our dress style, and we shouldn't be surprised when we send out mixed messages that there are stupid people in the world that interpret that as an opportunity for direct action.

"I don't know why people think I'm a far right white supremacist when I dress like a far right white supremacist"

Kinda daft no?

@hugenot

1. actually traditional skinheads have nothing to do with racism or far-right white supremacist, how could they be racist if this subculture emerged from mix of british mods and jamaican rude boys and if there were/are white skinheads but black ones as well? far-right groups just hijacked their style, I suggest you googling for "s.h.a.r.p", you can see what skinheads think about neo-nazis.

[ UPDATE ==> google for "s.h.a.r.p. skinheads" if you don't want to delve through adverts of sharp electronics ]

anyway, i am not skinhead, it's just to explain...

2. being white supremacist has nothing to do with style, it's not about any fashion, it's about having shit instead brain

3. if you think that clothes can justify abusive/aggresive behaviour towards person wearing them, let me know, please, what are you wearing today, I am sure that i can find some kind of reason to dislike you and i understand that being as good as your word you will understand and think that's allright and normal?

Sorry, it's taken me a long time to reply and meanwhile NowandHere has come back and is aggrieved that you suggested his hair "affiliated him" with far-right nutjobs. Which you can't be surprised by. So that is what I meant when I suggested you enjoy fighting, it was rather provocative. He wasn't wearing a T-shirt saying I Love The EDL, he just has short hair.

I was going to post something similar, but assumed most people on here already knew the history.

Although I still take H's point in a way. There are some morons around who are always going to make the association between skinheads and neo-nazis, and there's an easy way to distance yourself from it...

@Jeremy, when I started this thread i was upset, i moved on before i read first answers. just later i had to read posts that i am racist (because i described color of a car as black ;-) ) or that i called this guy racist (when i didn't) or that i deserved being dressed in some particular way. what's better than proving that you're not a camel ;-)

Unfortunately some people on this forum are rather self-righteous, and will jump at the chance to accuse someone of racism - such nonsense has been directed at me more than once. I suggest you ignore it.

I've had a few skinhead friends over the years (mainly through the ska and reggae scene), so I think I know where you're coming from. I'm not actually suggesting that you should change your appearance, I was just saying that Huguenot's point is logical.

Welcome to the forum NowAndHere....any kind of debate on it isn't for the faint hearted I'm afraid. Jeremy is right, it's just a forum and as much as some like the sound of their own words (and I've had my moments in that regard too :D ) it's not worth spending too much time worrying about anything anyone writes. Some will provoke just for the sake of debate. You know who you are, as do your family and friends - theirs are the only opinions that matter.

Just for the record, I don't get the lasting impression that you are racist and I hope you haven't taken that from me. Having said that, your original post and thread heading, in my self-aware head, could easily be misconstrued. Unfortunately there are lots of spineless, ignorant racists out there who 'hide' behind veiled statements.

And, it's those types I will always react to.

But, as I have said before, and will no doubt say again, you really shouldn't post on here if you expect no-one to challenge you. Healthy, sometimes heated, debate is good for the soul as long as it is both balanced and considered and coming from a good place..

That is a beautiful post, really beautiful. xxxx

lol.....I've been on more rocky ground than I care to remember AM ;) .....but I never worry if someone disagrees with me. And with many debates there is no wrong or right anyway....which is why a debate can happen. Nothing wrong with passion in debate either. Passion is what gets things done, and changed (hopefully for the better).

Anyone who knows me in person knows I will be the first to help, support or encourage if can. My mother used to tell me something repeatedly....'that it doesn't matter what you do in life, as long as you are happy, and inspire others'.

It's a good philosophy to live by :)

You assumed that because he was a black man, throwing a can at a honky, that he was doing it as an act of racism - therefore implying all sorts of racial stereotypes - which is itself an act of racism.

Oh dear - have you recovered from having an empty coke can thrown at you yet? Obviously not as you clearly have anger management issues.

Don't assume that because the person was black, he was throwing it at you because you are white - that is implied racism.

Anyway, I can put you in touch with a counselor, if you're still traumatised by this terrible incident.

    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
    • Brilliant, thank you all! sounds like we have a few nights out up our sleeves 🙂
