Indiana
I just finished reading the book yesterday and thought it was very good -have you read it too? I want to see the film now but not if it's rubbish! Will obviously have to ignore Hathaways apparently awful Yorkshire accent Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19377-the-film-one-day/#findComment-472003 Share on other sites
Moos
Read the book last year and enjoyed it but as ever wasn't sure what all the hype was about. I do think the book is worth a read, but am not planning to see the movie. My husband and I got a rare offer of babysitting last weekend and wanted to see a film... really scratched our heads over what was on offer! In the end we chose Tree of Life. Abysmal, unfortunately.. Dodo1
HiSorry to say you will feel disappointed!Obviously there was alot to cram in but they left some good bits out like her "r/ship" with the head. Having said that still got a shock when you know what happened! Lochie
I saw this yesterday and quite enjoyed it. Had not read book but read review after seeing film and it was saying whereas the book was more serious and similar to say themes of Thomas Hardy ie we determine our own fate be it good or bad, the film was basically a rom com and not like book in tone. So if you've read book and liked it u might not want to see film! Yak
I loved the book but fear they might have "hollywooded" it. Given the replies so far I think I'll be staying away! mrs f
I haven't read the book but felt the film was just a bit lame.... totally lacking well, something / everything. I wasn't at all shocked or cared when 'you know what' happened and that's a bit rubbish if you just don't care when something like that happens to a lead charater...sadly just a bit bland.... and it felt very rushed, I guess some films just don't work as books. And yes Anne Hathaway's accent is truly irritating it is sooo bad! new mother
Agree with all the above. I might still read the book. It was disappointing as we get so few chances to go out.... GSJ57
I loved the book, and only liked the film. They obviously had to leave an awful lot out of the film, but I think they did it quite well - except for Anne Hathaway's peculiar accent! The book stayed with me for quite some time - which doesn't happen too often! Loved Dex and Em! crystal7
Loved the book but not sure about seeing the film...read somewhere that it lacks a sense of time and place?? As others have said don't get to the cimena much so when I do I want it to be something really good. Polly D
I shall be controversial and say I only liked the book and loved the film, despite AH's bizarre accent.
