ive just found out that our flat was burgled on friday afternoon between 1pm and 4pm . Ive been away but my husband has been there and went out for just this time. hes only told me now as im on my way back and he didnt want me to have a nasty surprise when entering the house. The door was kicked in and the laptop has gone but wont know anymore till I am back ! Im on Belvoir road .

That's exactly what happened to me 2 years ago. Sorry about this. London bars on doors help apparently.

I saw a really dodgy guy the other day on Barry Road sat afternoon. He was looking in at the windows of 3 cars and they definately weren't his beacuse he was taking ages and looking at each in turn and looking around. I stared him out and he got on a bus and went....

Again I am so sorry to hear about these breakins and thefts.

As for the steel security doors, it's fine for people who own their own homes that are houses, but Southwark operates a discrimination policy when it comes to people securing their own homes, and we are not allowed to put security gates on our doors or even at the end of our balconies, even if we own our own homes, if the home is in a block of flats. This is because of the Lakanal fire. Ours was at the end of the open balcony 3rd floor so in event of a fire we could have escaped the flat. Not allowed. We even took the lock off, hoping the fact there was a door there would put off potential crims. Not allowed, have to remove door. So security is a political issue here. Don't mean to highjack the thread in any way, but this issue may apply to some of you in flats.

Again, if any of you need some practical help or advice please do post on here and many of us might be able to help.

For what it is worth I am aware that the police from the local safer neighbourhood team do look at the posts on here every day.

Came home from work today to find we've unfortunately joined the 'I've been burgled club'. We're on Talfourd Road, near Bellenden Road and they kicked in the doorframe to bypass the locks and took two laptops, some cash and various other bits and pieces. Thankfully the cat seems ok (possessions are replaceable but I'd have been devastated if they'd harmed her as she's quite old now).

Going to have to barricade the door tonight till we can have the frame completely replaced tomorrow so hopefully they won't be paying a repeat visit.

Sorry to hear that.

Make sure to give the police the serial number of the laptop if you have it. Also have a go at giving serial numbers to local Technicians and IT operatives, If they are decent they will inform you

Hopefully the thieving bastarians wont know how to wipe it.

what laptop was it? make and model? I'll keep an eye out

It had a password on so I'm hoping (probably naively!) that might deter them for a bit, but it was a 14inch white macbook (and we also lost another, older, macbook amongst other things). The police seemed pretty sure it'd be in our local cash converters in a matter of hours so someone's probably already bought it.

I should say though, that our lettings agents (Homewood Homes) have been ace about the whole thing; sent maintenance people straight round to see what they could do for the door and had a brand new frame, with London bar as well, installed by yesterday lunchtime. I know lettings agents have a bad reputation so thought it was nice to share a good story for once!

    • Looking for a celebrity impersonator for a party or any good companies any one knows, please let me know!!
    • That’s another big hike on the Sainsbury’s mini rolls! I spoke to one of the managers on the day of the anchovies price rise but all he could say was that his store doesn’t set the prices. Very vague and not helpful. i started this thread about price rises in  Sainsbury’s and it’s somehow being blamed on Brexit etc!
    • And the Sainsbury’s own brand chocolate mini rolls have gone from £1.15 to £1.40 overnight, so 22%-ish. I prefer them them to the Cadbury original because they have a lot more chocolate on them, presumably because they’re made in a less advanced factory. I would think that getting the Rizla thin coating of chocolate that Cadbury’s accountants demand onto a piece of sponge is quite a sophisticated operation. Discuss.
    • Another recommendation for Leon. He was able to come out to our electrical elergency within 24 hours of me contacting him. His communication was great and whilst he could not solve our problem, he was able to perform tests to identify this and did so quickly and efficiently. He charging  is very fair and his manner very pleasant. Both of these in contrast to some experiences I have had elsewhere.    happy to put my name to recommending Leon. His number is  07707 925039.
