NiceOne
Just moved to Peckham, can anyone tell me where to get a nice pizza? Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19313-pizza/ Share on other sites
ColdTurkey22
There is many places in ED where you can have a good pizza, it depends where you want to go and if you have kids. Bellenden Belle
The Gowlett - though not strictly SE22 - wins hand down for me. Wood fired pizza which are consistently spot on.The Actress pizzas on North Cross Road are decent and also come in handy slices if just a bit peckish. Their flavours are more adventurous than some - for example potato and rosemary.Il Mirto on Melbourne Grove is also good - cheapest in town too - though not as consistent as some. jimbo1964
There's a pizzeria opposite the Victoria on Bellenden Rd. Never tried it but it looks nice. Ditto what BB says. Bellenden Belle
SLA is the one Jimbo is mentioning - do I eat a lot of pizza? It's a fairly average offering - nothing to criticise, nothing to get excited about. Except its name of course....SLA? Stands for Sophie Loren's finest asset - a huge poster of which can be seen in the restaurant. taper
I like the pizza at SLA. Peckham's Gowlett's is good too. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19313-pizza/#findComment-470998 Share on other sites
zeban
See if Firezza deliver to Peckham- there's one in Herne Hill that I get delivery from. It's by far the best pizza I've ever had in London. And you can pay online by card, directly ordering from the website so no faffing about going to the cashpoint. Laddy Muck
Definitely The Gowlett for me: was there again Sun. (celebrating United's massive win - just had to mention that, tee hee) and the pizzas were spot on - DI-VINE!SLA: pizzas OK, but MUCH prefer The Gowlett. I like the "family atmosphere" at SLA though. But then - it's all subjective...each to their own and all of that... RosieH
It depends how you like your pizzas.Gowlett bases are thin and crispy - generally all-round delicious and undoubtedly my favourite. However (and I say this with much much love) the chef's special is bonkers and cornichons have no place on a pizza. Stick to the others and you'll be reet. Or if you like meat and pickles, try that one and see how you fare. The mushroom is superior to any I've had elsewhere, as is the pepperoni.Actress is good - an altogether doughier base, but nicely crisped on the outside. I rather like the potato pizza and make a similar recipe myself, but for me, it's gotta be the chilli beef and Lord of the Hundreds. So tasty that you don't mind when the middle flops and drops tomato sauce all down your front. Otta
I used to like the magdalla ones best, before it closed. Gowlett are okay, although I can't say they set my world on fire. MrBen
Gowlett. American Hot.Actress came up all new and flashy and that and not bad but a bit " all fur coat and no knickers" (Edinburgh saying).I find them tasty but a bit soggy. Still, a million Scott/CPC fans will tell me I'm wrong. (But a few less after the predictable sell out). RosieH
Now MrBen, don't go claiming things for yourself that just aren't true. Fur coat no knickers doesn't belong to the Scots (you don't remember Lilo Lil clearly - did you never watch Bread?) And no one's arguing for Scott's pizzas. Pretty much everyone, except Otta with his terrible taste, has said Gowlett. Accept that on this one, you're not the dangerous outsider fighting against the tide. ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19313-pizza/#findComment-471152 Share on other sites

northlondoner
Actress for me but yet to try gowlett. Firezza and the one on melbourne I find really average. Actually, had a couple at Licorish which were divine but that was a couple of years ago. katie1997
Mick Mac Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Gowlett> > Nothing compares. > > Is it uncool to have the pineapple one? What Mick Mac said. American Hot for me (and I admit I used to add pineapple but now go a step further into madness and replace the meat with pineapple as I prefer it with chilli oil).Tried the SLA place only once and thought both pizza and service were good. Would def go back. Now Mr Ben made me laugh out loud re: fur coat, no knickers. Whilst I enjoyed the pizza in the earlier days of the Actress, I'm sad to say that the last pizza I ordered there was not very tasty at all and it went cold really quickly. Maybe that was a one-off bit of bad luck but I'll likely order anything but pizza next time I'm there. Jeremy
Gowlett pizzas are very nice, but the base is so light/thin... they don't actually fill me up. Maybe I just need to get two of them. Alan Medic
Can anyone advise how big are the pizza's in the Actress? They seem like (from pictures I've seen) too big to have one per person. Is that right? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19313-pizza/#findComment-473461 Share on other sites

jctg
Dominos is the best delivery pizza. I'll say it again. DOMINOS. Better than any independent place (I've tried) and better than Pizza hut. That's DOMINOS. Next to the station. And on "google". Whatever that is.
