I hear that Clapham is FAR better than ED - its tradition on NYE for the drug fiends on SE London to run amok on Lordship lane with their unexchanged needles, scaring the residents

ED borders the seething hell hole of Peckham and all know about Peckham dont we.

best stay in Clappers.

I was aksing the Bishop about their plans - invite only, 2.00am close. I'm surprised they're not going for later. I fancy a 6.00am bedtime for an hour's sleep before I get up to get Max up.

I'd like to spend the night at the Drum. I'll ask about their plans.

Charlie

thanks for feedback everyone - I love the idea of black tie SeanMacGabhann and will look into it more.

James, I am a little worried that you are so prejudiced about people from Clapham, especially having just read your comments on the jojomamanbebe thread. Surely a cool veggie, japanese, straight-friendly, gay-friendly open-minded kind of guy like you would welcome the diversity that people different to you bring to the neighbourhood? ;-)

Sean is spot on. I went to the very first NY's black tie at The Rye in 04/05 and it was great. Lots of nice single girls and full of gay dudes - perfect scenario!

Ever since I have tried other options all involving expensive cabs but none can compare to walking down Barry Road in a tux, having a great party and staggering back in just ten minutes.

So I am definitely local this year. I hear the EDT has a good bash too. Anyone been to that?

Funny to think that that first year at the Rye I was sharing space with people who would become forumites. Time for another round of applause for Mr Administrator for doing this whole thing....

Any road, if I WAS going out for NY this year The Rye is where I would head. I do wonder who the lady who took a liking to pinching bum was that first time I went... sorry, I digress

But I'm not going out this year as Lady MacGabhann is departing for t'Far East for 3 months the day after

I'll second that! I was there last NYE. Great fun!

I shall avoid regressing into anti clapham sentiments. But I'm not sure that as a demographic they do bring much diversity to the area to be honest Nicky! ED is still way more diverse and retains real chraracter - something Clapham is lacking now.

I do wonder if there is a dark cloning machine in Clapham producing identikit young professionals with similar jobs, educational backgrounds, clothes and aspirations. A kind of sinister breeding ground for PR girls and Accenture consultants. They should do a Doctor Who with Clapham as the centre of all evil as the storyline. Just for a laugh. And have a final showdown in Clapham Foxtons where David Tenant saves the world from the Accenture-bots.

But if you want to impress your friends The Rye at NY'rs is a great intro to ED. Followed perhaps by a visit to Cafe Nero and the expensive kitchenware store for a ?90 frying pan just to make them feel at home.

See you there perhaps? (at the Rye not the Kitchenware store!)

But you have to wear posh clothes Nicky- its black tie! I'll be in a nice Kilgour suit with a silver tie. (As anyone from SW4 should know, silver is the new black). I'm very up for posh clothes. People should start wearing proper hats again. And gentlemen should wear brogues.

    • Looking for a few (any size) paving slabs for small garden project.  Nearby to Northcross Rd.  Can collect.    thanks
    • One more while I'm here, although more of the way a word is used, and whilst possibly pedantic it really does annoy me!! "Dilemma" Constantly used to describe any tricky decision, but the definition is a decision with only two options, both of which will have an equally bad outcome.  So a choice of whether to have cake, ice cream or chocolate is NOT A DILEMMA!!! See also "Decimate", which means to reduce by 10%, not just general widespread destruction... 😖
    • So sorry to hear this, makes me so angry that some scumbag thinks they can just take someone's transport, freedom, enjoyment away, and there's so little chance of them being caught or punished adequately.  If you haven't already, register it on BikeRegister and change the status to stolen, hopefully if any responsible person considers buying it then they'll check there first.  Report it to the Police - very little chance they're able to do anything, but it's important for the stats, which may eventually provoke action by the gov? Set up search alerts on Gumtree, eBay & Facebook Marketplace, but try to be as generic as possible - often they are listed as just "road bike" rather than the exact model.  I've also printed out flyers and dropped off at local bike shops in case the bike is brought in for repairs, but not sure how worthwhile that was. Hope this helps...
    • John has done a fantastic job plastering our bedroom. He boarded the ceiling & window bay then plastered both and the two remaining walls.  He always turns up on time and gets straight down to work, and leaves the room clean & tidy after. I thoroughly recommend John for any plastering work.
