Missed out Cable & Wireless in between Videotron and NTL.

Virgin didn't buy NTL. It was the other way around and NTL rebranded as Virgin.

  • 5 weeks later...

No connection for a week so engineer came yesterday and replaced the router.

He wired-up my laptop to the new router to demonstrate broadband is now available again.

He said I'd need to figure out how to connect to router wirelessly myself.

My phone sees the wifi signal fine but for laptop I can't figure out what to do.

The router has SSID/Pass'phrase'/WPS PIN printed on it and I guess I need to somehow 'introduce' these new details to the computer.

Any tips ??

Cheers KK

Step 1: can you tell that your laptop's wireless hardware is switched on (ie an indicator light shows)?

Step 2: are you familiar with any piece of software on your laptop that's used to configure its wireless conection?

Hi

ianr, thanks:

1) There is an indicator light for each of (what I believe is) WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth one being distinguished by a 'B' next to the indicator light.

Both lights are on.

2) I have a network manager program but that seems to defer to the Virgin one network manager (which tells me there's no WiFi connection).

it's a pain in the @ss !!

Thanks for advice. Can't try it just now as there's zero service at all currently, not even via a cable plugged into router.

Virgin say it'll be a couple of days to fix the 'local issue in your area'.

I'm in ED by CPT - Anyone else near here experiencing same loss in service ?

acm - yeah that might be good, I'd appreciate it, I'll take notes for 'next' time. when I get service re-established (ie. I can access via cable) I'll let you know. Going by binary_star's post it'll be sorted today (time will tell).

I'll let you know when I've seen the service up and we can set up a day/time.

binary_star - cheers for heads-up. Seems to match what Virgin told me yesterday AM.

Anyone in the Barry Road area having trouble with Virgin TV and or Broadband last night / today? Signal on both was bad last night and worse this morning before I left for work, TV was unwatchable and I may not have had broadband at all. No mention of local problems on the website but that might mean it's been sorted out now.

    • I had no idea about the sourcing of the paving stones - where is the info on this? The extension of the paved area seems completely unjustified- plus, there is a cycle lane right thru the middle so there are bound to be some near misses with pedestrians.
    • That's really awful. There must be someone further up the management chain who could be made aware of this?
    • I'm assuming that anybody who has a cat can afford  its food, litter, vets' fees etc. Nobody was saying that two quid is "nothing", but it's cheaper than some brands of cat litter, so was hopefully useful to the OP. Still, hopefully your post made you feel better 👍 🤣 We still don't know why there was a bag of cat litter at the bus stop! Surely it would be rather difficult to take it away unnoticed if the owner of the cat litter was  also at the bus stop? It's not like someone distracted your attention and picked your pocket and you didn't notice till some time later! But what is also confusing me is, if the OP knows where the thief lives, why don't they go and ask for their cat litter back?
    • The market is only there for a few hours on Saturdays! Surely all street markets are "a bit tatty"! That seems a strange reason to close a road permanently to traffic!  There is already at least one seat  in North Cross Road (which seems to be quite well used),  apart from those for customers of The Palmerston,  and several of the shops in the road have greenery outside
