Someone's not getting their 5 a day...

Update:

Bicarb solution definitely nowhere near as efficient as bio-washing powder. Pan was soaked most of yesterday/overnight and, although water has turned black, little has shifted. Am going to give it a chance by adding more bicarb and leaving it for another day. If the remainder of the burnt mess doesn't shift soon, will revert to Ariel to complete the job. Blackberry picking tomorrow = no time to waste!

*adds more bicarb*

You can recover the burn jam by letting it to cold down for one hour removing the burn bits; and then add 50ml of water and a bit of sugar or honey and you can add more hot fruit . You can just try if you would like to keep the jam ; It has work for me a few times.

And for the burn pan Leave it for the night with hot water and a bit of Ajax powder you will get good results

is not a big deal and I would not threw it away. You need to be patient because with my

tips you will see quick results. :)

Yes, it never occurred to me to attempt to "keep the jam"!

Anyway, update. Inspection today reveals that bicarb (in the short term at least) is not up to the job of dealing with 3rd degree burns on bottoms of jam pans. So, it's back to bio-powder today.

Thanks all, for your contributions to date (you too - jokers).

LM - face it, your jam-making days are over. Unless you get a new pan, as suggested by D-C.

Mind you, its been a month since I last made jam. I've definitely not been getting 5 a day ;)

Thankfully the blackberries are still going strong here. Delicious warmed with lemon and sugar pancakes. Have fun picking them today and remember to handle carefully, if too ripe, they can explode in your hand.

    • Earlier tonight, around 10pm (Monday 22 April), I saw a bright, small fireball come straight down from the sky and seemingly land in the near distance. I’d estimate it landed somewhere around Beauval Road/Lordship Lane/Goodrich/Landcroft Rd or thereabouts.  Googling meteorites I also discovered tonight was due to be the height of the Lyrid meteor shower over UK. Did anyone else see anything/capture it on door cams/ dash cams? Or better still find the meterorite?!
