Off to Italy and head is swimming with what we need to take with us. It'll be a chilled out pool/beach affair.

Going to buy bulk of wipes, nappies and formula over there (have checked I can get aptamil, hurrah).

And hoping to borrow a Maclaren, or buy a second hand Baby Jogger city mini before (need one anyway).

But what else?! What did you wish you'd taken, wish you'd left behind, and thanked the heavens you had with you?

thanks all

Hiya - I've been using the Garnier infants suncream which is easy-ish to rub in & comes in factor 50. I am off on a very similar holiday as you just next week and have been told by others to take:

- swimseat for splashing in the pool (acquired yesterday)

- a UV blackout cover for the buggy to enable sleeping & sunprotection

- a spare soft mattress for rental cot

- bags for water sterilisation (if you sterilise anything)

- not too many toys!(I have a tendency to overdo it....)

I will keep an eye on this thread, too!

boots soltan for babies/children suncream is fab as you only have to put on once a day and its waterresistant for up to 6 hours I think. on our hol last year she never got burnt and was in and out of pool all day!

id take a baa baa blind as some hotels are very bright.

get your wipes, formula etc in boots once you get through security as although more expensive than high street still cheaper than abroad.

take a sling/carrier with you as you dont get the buggy back until luggage collection and it can be a long time holding baby waiting for everything to come off plane.

can highly recommend the jane sonic buggy from mothercare online, very lightweight, reclines and folds up smaller than maclaren etc, and extendable handles for the hubbies.

we have a baby swimseat for sale if anyone needs one send me a pm ?5

def take a sterilizer bag and tablets incase there is no microwave, I have a spare one if you want it,

check if your room has a kettle. if not travel kettle for boiling water for bottles.

some of those ellas kitchen pouches were great, we used them as pasta sauces when in villa but great for when out and about.

some washing tablets and cut down on clothes you are taking, should be hot enough that you can rinse things through and hang out and will be dry in couple of hours.

travel washing line- again I have one if you want to borrow it, elastic with hook on each end and lots of clips so clothes dont blow away.

hope you have a great hol. send me a pm if you want to borrow anything.

and just thought a buggy shade, this one from jojo's is brilliant.link to sunshade

its got clips in the sides to clip to buggy but we used it in the car on the car seat, and on highchairs whn we wanted to sit out in sun but wanted shade for baby. plus its pop up so it folds down to the side of a side plate so we keep ours in the change bag all the time.

i'd second a blackout blind and a UV sun shade for your buggy. also keep an eye out for sodium levels in mineral water if using bottled water to make up feeds. Some of the local southern European brands have very high levels. Evian is generally a good bet i seem to remember.

    • @NewWave that’s a good idea!! Someone cannot book well in advance to cancel regularly . They should monitor that.  Also I didn’t know you can book two weeks in advance. I was not aware of it. It’s even  more frustrating now because I used to book regularly without any problem a week  in advance and on the day. I regret it!  I shouldn’t have done it. Unfortunately no money back. I guess I can try the gym for some body weight training but don’t know how it works! Thank you for your feedback
    • Yes, probably, but I do like the one I have.
    • @Jellybeanz In response you know nothing about me I will not list all the charities I support (with regular donations) I simply feel there are ample inexpensive opportunities for small buisnesses to advertise their services.
    • @angehouse  I've found the same issue..its been the same for over 2 years now...every class I want to attend has a waitlist even 10days in advance and then a few hours before spaces magically become available by which point I've made other plans or do'nt have my gym stuff to hand and I'm not in the area (I don'nt lead a life where I can just sit at home and amble down to the gym as and when..theres only a few classes I can get to on my days off work) Its very very annoying. I'm sure its the same people that book well in advance then cancel..if only they could monitor the people who do this repeatedly and bar them from advance bookings for 6 weeks or something to teach them a lesson. For this reason I have'nt been to any classes at the gym for well over a year and just use the gym. Its frustrating.
