mima08
We are off on holiday for the first time plus baby and will have to hire a rental car to get from the airport to our accommodation. I'm trying to keep costs down but am really unsure about car sizes, particularly boot space. We are 2 adults, 1 teenager & said baby. I am looking at possibly hiring a Peugeot 206, will I get my buggy (a bee) in and would there be any space left? Alternatives are a Fiesta, Panda or something much more expensive.... We are not planning on many trips, it is really just the transfer to / from the airport which is approx. 1.1/2 hrs drive. Any advise would be appreciated! bluesuperted
Have you considered a taxi each way instead? We just hired a car for two weeks in the US. We ordered the cheapest compact and SO glad they upgraded us to a Ford Focus. We were: two people, one one-year old, two large suitcases, one umbrella buggy, one car seat, three bags of hand luggage. It was a bit of a squash for both airport trips! mima08
Hmmm - sounds scary! we will need a car for general running around even though we are not planning any long trips there, so taxi is not really an option. Looking at a Peugeot outside my house , that would be plenty for day trips, it's just the luggage and buggy question I am not sure about ... kerry.finlay
You could always book the smaller and when you get there give it a go. If you can't get everything in, hope that you can upgrade to bigger? ClareC
Does the hire company give the option of a roofbox/rack?How far from the airport is the accommodation? Close enough for two trips if necessary? It's worth taking bungees as you could remove the parcel shelf and stand the buggy up and strapped with bungees so it takes less space. You could also take a smaller buggy, or depending where you are going buy a really cheap one whilst there to use and leave(they can be purchased for less than ?25 in some places), hassle I know but if it's significantly more expensive to get the larger car may be cost effective. You may be lucky and get an upgrade... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19127-rental-car-advise-please/#findComment-467667 Share on other sites
flocker spotter
Don't forget to take a baby car seat. Hire co.s charge a fortune and generally don't stock baby seats.
