Renata Hamvas
I don't know how many ED residents use this route, but if you do, there are proposals to change the Nunhead end of the route. Some Nunhead residents has stated that they would like the route to be extended to New Cross Bus Garage via Queen's Rd. Is this what you would wish for?78 bus route consultationRenata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19082-78-bus-consultation-now-closed/ Share on other sites

Ridgley
Are you saying the 78 bus route will start from New Cross instead of Nunhead that a bit of a pain for those waiting at Peckham Rye bus stop? spanglysteve
so why is it that extending this route to New Cross seems to have little impact whereas to extend the 63 to honor oak oark station is apparently asking the world? bil
wow I didn't realise that TFL ever cared to ask what the users of their services need...no doubt it will be ignored in any case. kabekay
spanglysteve- from the consultation document it looks like the proposed change to the 78 is only to send it a slightly different way from the (current) stand to the first stop. So not really life changing then...Whereas we would actually like the 63 extending by three whole, greedy stops. Entirely too much to ask, apparently. I don't personally see the point of the 78 change- have they been having noise complaints since going double decker? PeckhamRose
It would be good for the 78 to go on to New Cross, just as it would be good for the 484 to go in to Sainsburys and the 63 to go up to Honor Oak. I am imprssed the 78 is listening to its customers; the 63 and 484 don't intend to change. nunheadclaire
It remains to be seen what will happen with the 78 bus route as the consultation doesn't end until tomorrow. However in reply to previous posting, there has been a lot of local upset about double deckers going down very narrow roads - increased noise, pollution and speed. nunheadclaire
by the way, Renata does your ward cover residents in Nunhead, not sure it does? Ridgley
The double decker is better as the original 78 hopper bus get packed in the mornings to get to work going to the city. nunheadclaire
for sure but not fun for those of us living on a narrow street when it goes thundering past! Renata Hamvas
The request for the route to be extended to New Cross has come from the Nunhead Voice (formerly the Nunhead Community Forum, they've changed their name to match their magazine). There were complaints from Ansdell Rd Residents as the road is very narrow, when the bus went double decker. TFL have proposed altering the route to go down Lausanne Rd instead. The residents group plus some users of the SouthEastforum, Nunhead section have raised this too. There have not been any suggestions to alter the current route from Nunhead Lane, by the Rye and up through Rye Lane. In terms of the 63 extension, that all of the Peckham Rye Councillors (Myself, Victoria Mills and Gavin Edwards) plus Valerie Shawcross have been lobbying for, this was turned down by both TFL and Boris on economic grounds. TFL costed the 4 bus stop extension to Honor Oak Rise at 600k a year! They say there wouldn't be sufficient extra paid for journeys to warrant the additional cost. The also say that customers can use the P12 or P4 instead? (very different routes to the 63). The extension of the 484 to Sainsbury's at DKH was also looked into. I think it was dismissed on the grounds that there are more users wishing to go the Denmark Hill (train, hospitals etc) and Camberwell than to Sainsbury's and the looping into the car park would cause significant delays to the route. On altering the 343 route or making the buses single decker at the Nunhead end, this was also discounted.Hi Nunhead Claire, in answer to your question, the 78 route does through part of my ward which includes the Eastern part of East Dulwich, west and south Nunhead (eg parts of Linden Grove, Nunhead Lane and Ivydale Rd)and the Southwark part of Honor Oak. sb2010
It would be great if the bus went to New X Gate as at the moment it is only the 343 bus from this end of Peckham which I never get because of the convoluted route Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19082-78-bus-consultation-now-closed/#findComment-467416 Share on other sites
peckhamside
I missed the consultation but this would be terrific as would be walking distance from the Overground stop.
