Hi all,

Let me look into the zebra crossing issue - agree that it's very odd.

As for Heber School, I'd be happy to get school streets put in place on Heber Road if the school wants this. I know there are currently plans to adjust the road layout on the street to make it safer, but school streets would be good too.

Best wishes

James

Cllr McAsh, are you at all concerned by the significant increases in traffic congestion in and around your ward since the introduction of the closures in Dulwich Village and Melbourne Grove?

You seem to be avoiding direct questions on the matter and seem to have lost your ability to access the Healthy Streets thread since the measures were implemented...shall we speak to Admin on your behalf? ;-)

The Crystal Palace Rd zebra crossing and tarmacking around (as part of the bigger junction works a few weeks ago) were laid fine and has not been crumbling or broken from what I've seen, on foot, several times a day since.

The obvious question is WHY is the tarmac being re-laid ?

Next is, WHO authorised this ?!

They have done work to this junction at least three times. First time they moved the curb by 10cm at each corner (took weeks for so little work!) of the junction.... then they did the crossing and today they extended the ramp (god knows why and why they couldn?t do it properly the first time)

Edited to say that it?s great they did the crossing but would be a lot better if there was a crossing the other way over Whately or Underhill too to help kids cross and dodge the traffic & P13 bus on their way to school

I believe the school applied to be made a school street some time ago.

James - as "Mabaker" also commented a few weeks ago, lots of people have paid their garden waste subscription, but received no sticker. Myself included. Meanwhile, garden waste is piling up in the bin (including fruit fallen from trees), it is rotting and it stinks.

If there is a known problem with getting garden stickers sent out (i.e. staff unavailable due to covid), maybe they could just... you know.. take the bloody bins once in a while?? Or at the very least send an email letting us know what's going on. This is incredibly poor service.

Just reminding you James to please look into this.

When are the noise team returning? The situation with noise has become unbearable in ED. We are trying to work from home with kids literally screaming in gardens and people playing all day. Then it?s finally time for the weekend and the same, but so much worse - I feel like I haven?t slept properly in weeks. I?ve just asked the charming new neighbours (Landcroft Road) if they can turn the music down (Ed Sheeran on repeat, been this way for 3 hours and I can hear it in the front of the house - I can?t use the rest or the garden as it?s too loud - and got laughed at before they turned it up). Whenever I call the noise team they say no-one can come up but they?ll ring me within three days. What on earth is the point in that?

Is there really a pressing need for this at the moment?

I'd still like to know James.

James,

This is not directly within your ward but affects it and I am raising this since you seem to be the only local Councillor who(sometimes) responds on this forum. :-)

An organisation has been organising weekend events at the closed off junction of Calton Avenue, Court Lane and Dulwich Village, in contravention of Govt Covid guidelines. In my opinion this is totally irresponsible in the current situation.

Can you tell me whether this sort of event in a public space needs authorisation from the council and\or the Metropolitan Police and, if so, whether that authorisation was granted?

Also, is there a department in teh council responsible for ensuring compliance with Covid regulations to which I can raise a complaint?

Hi James,

Any update on this? Is it likely that plans might be progressed for a school street at Heber?

Please can we have an update on the East Dulwich CPZ. I?ve seen that work on the road markings has commenced and that the proposals to turn Melbourne North, Tintagel, Elsie and Derwent roads into exclusive gated communities refer to the CPZ coming into effect in August. http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=50023482&Opt=0

However, there is no reference to this elsewhere on Southwark?s website, see for example, which still suggests that this is suspended: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/health-and-wellbeing/public-health/for-the-public/coronavirus/impact-on-council-services/coronavirus-parking-restrictions-and-controlled-parking-zones

Given that it?s 11 August, if this is to be implemented before the end of the month, you?re not giving residents very long to sort out permits. Please please can we have clarity and guidance on this. I?m fairly sure that when the CPZ was initially suspended, the council explained that all residents would be notified prior to its reinstatement. I see no evidence that this has happened, despite the fact that we are a third of the way through August.

I received my letter earlier this week, implementation is September 14th. Work restarted yesterday.

Thanks Roywj. That?s helpful. We haven?t received our letter. Implementation on 14 September is better than August. I wonder why the plans to place permeable barriers on Elsie/ Tintagel/ Derwent and Melbourne refer to August instead. The joys of mixed messages!

Can anyone provide rationale as to why the CPZ measures are currently needed, especially given than most of the roads impacted are now going to have permeable filters? Since Covid started, and given this is likely the new normal for well into the New Year, is parking continuing to be a problem?

Surely the money being spent on this could be channelled more effectively elsewhere to have a more positive impact?

Road closures wont stop people parking - especially when the schools are back and the sixth formers are looking for parking spaces but might have been better off waiting to see the effect of the CPZ before closing roads off.

Sorry to bleat on about this but the noise team has returned but only during the hours of 7am and midnight. Most *really* bad disturbances happen during midnight and 7am, when people are trying to sleep. Such was the case last night, when a house on Landcroft road had a massive garden party from midnight to 4am. Please don?t underestimate the negative impact the increased noise is having on people?s mental and physical health. Personally I was trying to recover from food poisoning (on my birthday) and my heart sank when I woke up at midnight after several nights of no sleep. It?s hugely selfish behaviour when most of us are stuck at home - and this service is more useful now than ever. Please reinstate it - properly.

I can definitely back up the entirety of the previous message - last night's party was a very selfish aggression towards the people trying to sleep.

We have a little baby, and are already struggling with having a good night's sleep, and having to endure 4+ hours of literally banging sounds as we're directly opposite to them was extremely frustrating.

This is also not the first time the exactly same people have behaved in the exactly same manner.

I always thought that the "banana republic" I'm originally from is miles behind UK in most aspects, but realising that you can't call the police for this kind of severe disturbance was a shock to me (after googling my options at 2am in the morning only to realise there's not much to do).

    • Just last week I received cheques from NS&I. I wasn't given the option of bank transfer for the particular transaction. My nearest option for a parcel pick up point was the post office! The only cash point this week was the post office as the coop ATM was broken.   Many people of whatever age are totally tech savvy but still need face to face or inside banking and post office services for certain things, not least taking out cash without the worry of being mugged at the cash point.    It's all about big business saving money at the expense of the little people who, for whatever reason, still want or need face to face service.   At least when the next banking crisis hits there won't be anywhere to queue to try and demand your money back so that'll keep the pavements clear.
    • I think it was more amazement that anyone uses cheques on a large enough scale anymore for it to be an issue.    Are cheque books even issued to customers by banks anymore? That said government institutions seem to be one of the last bastions of this - the last cheque I think I received was a tax rebate in 2016 from HMRC.  It was very irritating.
    • I know you have had a couple of rather condescending replies, advising you to get to grips with technology and live in the modern world. I sympathise with you. I think some of us should try to be a bit more empathetic and acknowledge not everyone is a technophile. Try to see things from a perspective that is not just our own. Also, why give the banking sector carte blanche to remove any sort of human/public facing role. Is this really what we want?
