rachp
I totally agree, the lack of personal responsibility here is shocking. However, it does seem to be a reality around here. You can say something if you see it happening in person but these opportunities are rare. I do think the council could do more, whether that's more bin facilities or some kind of campaign. If you had signs by the bin saying please don't leave your rubbish next to the bin as it will blow away and presents a threat to wildlife etc, at least some people would be nudged to think about their actions. And others might be more emboldened to say something when they don't. Where local councils do undertake these kind of pro-active campaigns, I understand they have good results. Nigello
The best one can do is do one?s best. In this case, taking rubbish back home or at least to a less full bin. People are selfish, even ?nice? SE22 folk. I agree it?s bad behaviour but don?t do nothing: pick it up yourself, tackle offenders verbally, speak to your councillor. Hoping selfish actions will go away is a waste of time. Adidas_guy
I would like to ask why Overhill road is being re-paved with concrete slabs? The existing tarmac surface seems in good condition and being a steep hill it provided grip in winter conditions.I notice that elsewhere, where slabs have replaced a tarmac surface, weeds are growing between the slabs and some Slabs have moved, making for an uneven and possibly dangerous surface (trio hazards) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190786-goose-green-councillors-how-can-we-help/page/26/#findComment-1421214 Share on other sites
jamesmcash
Hi all,Sorry for the delay in responding. As some of you may know, I am a primary school teacher as well as being a councillor (being a councillor is not, for most, a fulltime role) and the ongoing preparations for school reopening has taken up a huge amount of time, in addition to my usual responsibilities both in the council and in school.Let me try to respond to all these points.Solyent GreenI've asked for the bins to be collected more frequently, and for bigger bins to be put in place. Hopefully this will result in some improvements. Thanks a lot for flagging.Overhill Road slabsI will try to get more information about this. Thanks for flagging!BlogpostRockets has pasted a blog post which I sent to Labour Party members. Consequently, it makes lots of reference to things which will not interest non-party members. Of the five points I make, two have a more party political and Southwark-wide focus, two are explicitly Goose Green focused, and one is a bit of both. I am not remotely embarassed by this - the role of the councillor is to do community work in your ward, and to do political work across the borough and beyond. I could of course do more in both areas but I think I have struck a fairly good balance. Thanks for highlighting my record on casework though ;)I hope this answers everyone's questions. Have a great weekend!Best wishesJames Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190786-goose-green-councillors-how-can-we-help/page/26/#findComment-1423543 Share on other sites
Rockets
To be fair James the blog post is hosted on your personal public blog that you advertise within your own signature on this forum. So to allude to it being sent just to Labour party members is a bit disingenuous - anyone can click on the link at the bottom of your last post. Sporthuntor
It?s just so depressing. When are the next elections so we can boot this shower out? Need strong independent councillors to represent us properly rather than their political party and personal aspirations. James Barber come back all is forgiven!!! first mate
We need someone truly independent that cares about constituency issues and representing the majority more than internal party politics. jamesmcash
Hi allI will try to respond to all these points as well as I can.Blogpost and newsletter - Rockets and AbeYes the blog post is hosted on my website. It includes a range of different articles and posts, with different audiences in mind. None of it is secret, hence me putting it on a public website, but if a non-party member reads a blog intended for Labour Party members then yes - you might find it focuses more on the Labour Party than you'd like!Abe is absolutely right that the same website also hosts the Goose Green Councillor Newsletter. This is, quite explicitly, intended for Gosoe Green residents (not just party members). I did not send the blog post above out on this newsletter.Next electionsNext elections are due May 2022. Hope you're all having a good weekend - shame about the weather eh!Best wishes,James Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/190786-goose-green-councillors-how-can-we-help/page/26/#findComment-1423753 Share on other sites

I'd be happy to support anyone with this - just drop me an email.> James, The council has now admitted the figure for the 47% traffic increase used a base when there WERE road works. They also claim this had no affect on the traffic, even though it resulted in a 33% decrease on the previous year. I am glad to hear you will support us in making a complaint but how do we lodge a complaint against the council and on what grounds? That the Council officers misled the councillors or that the Dulwich Village Ward Councillors misled their constituents? Abe_froeman
If that is true then it sounds like someone lied to James too."Posted by jamesmcash May 04, 07:18PMHi allI have checked and apparently the baseline measurements were carried out from 28th September to 16th October 2015, when there were no road works." Earl Aelfheah
As we don't have tube stations, cycle superhighways, any of the other London wide dockless bike hire schemes.... as there are no extensions to pavements, or temporary segregated bike lanes... Perhaps we could just get some Santander bikes? I'm not sure whether TFL and Southwark are aware, but we do also pay taxes in the south of the borough. Abe_froeman
If we close enough roads and put in CPZs everywhere people will buy their own bikes!! first mate
I would far rather the council had just waited to see if many more people did cycle...there is a huge health imperative to do that now, and then those left over would be those that really do need to drive, whether for work or personal health reasons. We might anyway have reached the desired low traffic situation locally and therefore have no need of CPZ. I feel the council cannot bear to lose that potential revenue and hence the real reason for school streets etc now in order to create that additional parking pressure, when, apparently, schools are not going back for some time.I am even beginning to wonder if having CPZ makes people more not less likely to hold onto their cars because it amps up competition for car parking spaces and a sense that cars are necessary and a fear that people might lose out. slarti b
The map of the Santander bike stations is pretty revealing, virtually no stations East and South of the A3 (CLapham Rd, Common, etc) and A2 (Old KEnt Road) https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/santander-cycles/find-a-docking-stationI guess that Santander bike use would be very much based around commuters cycling to and from eg Herne Hill, Brixton East& North Dulwich stations. If so, would this sort of tidal flow work well or leave, eg bike stations in Dulwich empty during the day? Siduhe
For the background as to why no hire cycles in Southwark see here - https://www.citymetric.com/transport/why-south-east-london-doesnt-have-boris-bikes-805 The scheme involves elements of council-funded ?pay to play? (or at least did in 2015) - and the reported figures that other councils have paid to get the scheme extended to their area aren?t small. first mate
The extremely steep hills at either end of ED ( Dog Kennel and Forest ) are quite likely a factor as to why more people do not cycle to commute, even Greendale involves a hill. Add in rain and wind and it is a rare cyclist that?ll go those routes day in day out, especially on a ?heavy? hire bike. This is why it is irritating that cyclists who do not live in the area have been able to access the consultation process to push CPZ.Don?t know why Southwark has been unwilling to invest in Santander bikes elsewhere in the borough though.
