Fergie reckoned United played a great game today.


Impressed with Brum's second half performance against United - they were a little unlucky not to have taken all 3 points. I think they'll finish the season jockeying for 6th, 7th and 8th with the Villa and Spurs.

Tottenham have a genuine chance of winning the league. None of the big 4 has looked in anyway convincing this season and with 18 games to go we are very well placed. We've got a great array of attacking talent. If we can just iron out our flakey moments and not drop points in a silly fashion we may do it.

Who knows, even the forum's favourite player David Bentley may score the goal that wins us the league !

There are various stories on why ManUre are called "rags" here's two viable ones

It appears the name was given to them by their own fans.


During the 1930-31 season, United were in a wretched state. The club teetered on the brink of bankruptcy and were attracting crowds of less than 4,000 for some games - despite still being in Division 1.


Harry Hughes, a City fan working in Trafford, tells this story:


?I worked in Trafford then, and all the locals were United fans. I was working nights and when Saturday morning arrived a couple of them asked ?are you going to see the Rags today?? I didn?t know what that meant, and then they explained that United fans had started to call the team the ?Rags? because they were so poor and that their kit looked liked rags. So after that I knew who they meant, but when I mentioned the Rags, they?d go, ?who the Hell are you talking about?? They didn?t like the opposition saying it.?


The poor level of support continued throughout the 1930s. When war broke out in 1939 an immediate ban was placed on the assembly of large crowds. The joke doing the rounds in Manchester was that United would have nothing to worry about.


There?s another great Rags story told by Howard Burr, secretary of the Reddish Blues. Full story here.


In 1968, Howard?s father was manager of the Umbro factory in Stockport. When United reached the European Cup final they put in a rushed order for the kit. The material his dad used had been lying about in the factory since the place was built and was full of dust and cobwebs.


In fact, some of the machinists were upset it was being used because they used to cut lengths off the roll to take home for dusters.


~ For the record, I should point out that Old Trafford did get the odd huge gate in the 1930s. In March 1939 the ?Theatre of Empty Seats? drew a crowd of 76,962 - when Wolves played Grimsby in the FA Cup semi-final.

It's a United nickname appropriated by the second best team in Manchester. :))


Speaking of large crowds I heard recently that Celtic v Leeds in the 1970 semi final got nearly 134,000 people through the gate. It must have been cosy. We also used to get pretty high gates when we played at Maine Road after the war.

cheers SP for the opportunity to mention that those 134000 would see the mighty celtic beat the english champions. Steins team beat revie's team home AND away and would reach the european cup final only to lose to feyenoord. Don Revie - Your boys took one hell of a beating....

Second best in Manchester hey? Erm why has Giggs been given the freedom of the city of SALFORD then? One team, One Manchester, One City !

      Just putting this out there... Why does it have to be something controlled by (and paid for by) the council?  If it's intended for the community and really needed (questionable) then why can't or shouldn't the community step up and run it/keep it tidy?

      Thanks for all this info. I got a letter from Octopus legacy this week saying they now have my will and was very confused. Didn't know GD were also Abington law ltd so confusion deepened! But at least I now know where it is and what has happened.

      On most Lenovos, one needs to press the F1 key repeatedly ( say at half second intervals) immediately the Lenovo logo appears.   If the above does not let you in try  press the Enter key at the Lenovo logo. There may be a press Enter to Interrupt message on the screen. This may cause the Startup Interrupt Menu to appear. Pressing F1 at the Startup Interrupt Menu will cause the computer to enter BIOS. Once you get in then you can see if the SSD is detected in the storage or boot section. Run any available diagnostics tools in the BIOS. If the SSD isn't recognized, it's likely failed or has a loose connection. Check for boot errors, If it says "No Boot Device Found" or something similar, then it means it cannot find the operating system on the SSD which probably means the is a major SSD issue The BIOS is a hyper-sensitive area so I suggest being careful about not changing any settings. To be safe, it is best to exit the bios by not saving any changes if you are in any doubt
