I thought Jonathan Liew in the Telegraph put it very well

"Let us be clear about this. We are not talking about a few isolated crooners here. A significant proportion of West Ham's travelling support participated. The press box at White Hart Lane is roughly 60 yards from the away end. The songs rang out loudly and clearly.

Tottenham have a significant proportion of Jewish fans. So do West Ham, as if that matters. This is not a question of identity, or racial pride. It is a lack of manners, compounded by a lack of education, compounded by a lack of fundamental human dignity."

Was disappointed both managers chose to be so equivocal as well

Hard to believe this pondlife can't be identified and arrested - there are HD cameras all over the place which could be turned around and focused on any crowd section where there is racist chanting without breaching anyone's human rights etc.

It's not just offensive it's a crime and lip reading has been used in the past to ID offenders. They should be ID'd and dealt with in the same way rioters and looters were - an early morning wake-up call and a picture in the paper.

Especially Allardyce, who, when asked about the chants by jourmos, said "What do you want me to say?", well Mr. Allardyce it would have been nice if you'd said how disgusted he was with a section of his own fans. Perhaps I'm being naive.

West Ham aren't alone here, a couple of year's ago whilst at WHL a considerable amount of Everton fans made hissing noises etc, in the past I have confronted these idiots but mostly to little avail. Puts me off going away, as these fixtures attract the bigots. Scum.

Fair play to you for having a go though, I have to admit I'd want to have a go, but would probably keep my head down and not risk trouble.

You really do wonder whether these morons actually give any thought whatsoever to what they are saying / doing. You almost hope not, because then they are just total morons. If they really do think gas chambers are funny, then that's a lot scarier. Either way they should be banned from all grounds for life.

My personal opinion on this (which will never happen)is that they should shrink the Champions League to include just CHAMPIONS", and make the Europa league a better competition. They should definintely stop adding the knocked out teams of one in to the other, that undervalues the EL more than anything IMO.

Made me check the details but I was at the 1984 semi Man U v Juventus. Was working in Manchester and got a ticket at face value just before k.o. Juve had Rossi, Platini and Boniek. 1-1 draw. Sadly the United scorer was a little known guy called Alan Davies who some years later comitted suicide.

    • Hi Sue you can try to restore your Laptop to a previous restore point prior to last Monday if you have recovery switched on  To restore Windows to a previous date, you can use the System Restore feature. This feature returns your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It can help fix recent software issues without affecting your personal files.  Steps to restore Windows to a previous date  Click System Restore Click Next Select a restore point (date just prior to last Monday 3pm )  Click Next again Confirm the restore point and system restoration Click Finish Click Restart Open the System Protection tab
    • The person who started the previous thread I linked to said they were Greek, so I presume would be well aware of cultural nuances. The absolute kindest thing I can think of is that whoever started the shop (and I believe there are several shops) was not aware of the meaning of the name. But surely you would not just pluck a name for a new business out of the air? Surely you would make sure it did not have any possible negative connotations, in any language? Has anybody actually asked the shop about this?  As regards this "vegan hot chocolate", I'm bemused. The chocolate powder itself was surely just cocoa and sugar? It doesn't normally have any animal related products in it, does it? So it must have been the milk which made it "vegan", so probably either oat milk or soya milk? I regularly make hot chocolate with oat milk, and occasionally have it when  out. It has never occurred to me to call it "vegan" (I'm not a vegan), and I've never seen it described as "vegan". When I'm out I just ask for hot chocolate with oat milk. It obviously doesn't taste the same as when made with cow's milk, but I prefer the taste. I don't particularly like drinks made with soya milk, which in any case curdles in certain hot drinks, but  most places give you a choice of milk?
    • Good news! A friend with techie knowledge was able to get into the laptop (not physically) and I've now saved the recent unbacked up data onto an external hard drive (and I won't be making that mistake again). Remarkably, whatever he did caused the  screen to spring back to life, and I can actually now  do things on the laptop. However it is in safe mode, and my  friend said not to take it out of safe mode or turn it off, in case I can't get back into it again. Because I don't know what the problem was in the first place which caused the sudden  total and persistent screen blackout, I am worried that  the same thing may happen again. I phoned Which Tech,  as they will now be able to connect to it remotely as they will be able to see the screen, but they don't have an appointment for a week. I also phoned John Lewis again, but they still rabbited on about a factory reset always being "highly recommended" 🙄 presumably because that's what wherever they send laptops to be repaired always does first. Is there any easy way (without potentially making things worse again) to look  into the laptop  history to identify what happened last Monday around 3pm?!
    • Google Translate seems to suggest that arapina is translateable to "negress" in English, which is a bit different in English to the N-word. But I don't speak Greek so don’t know if that's a good translation or what the cultural nuances are, and shouldn't stick my oar in beyond that.  As an aside, the "choco kiss" (schokoküss) that's a bit like a Tunnock's tea cake used to be called a "negro's kiss" in lots of different European countries. It seems like it's been mostly renamed, which seems sensible... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate-coated_marshmallow_treatsl I can't think offhand of any similar stuff in English but I might just be uninformed.
