Rangers have been deducted ten points by the Scottish Premier League after an administrator was appointed at the Court of Session.

The club will also be prevented from registering any new players until they exit administration, except in the case where an emergency goalkeeper is required.

Court proceedings in Edinburgh on Tuesday resulted in the appointment of Duff and Phelps as administrator.

Rangers? ten point deduction applies immediately and will see their tally reduced to 51, leaving them in second spot.

Ally McCoist?s side would be 14 points adrift of Celtic and nine points ahead of third placed Motherwell, who have a game in hand. Rangers have 12 SPL fixtures left to fulfil this season.

If the club are still in administration at the start of the 2012/13 season, they will start the campaign on minus ten points.

SPL rules forbid the club from registering any new players from this point forward. Rangers, if required, could appeal to the league to appoint an emergency goalkeeper, if they can prove one is required due to injury or illness.

The drugs test maybe, but feasibly an accident and he did serve his sentence

If Suarez had been a Utd. player we'd have been hearing about the stress 'the lad' had been under and the 'misunderstandings' that arose because of a clash of cultures and that, regarding the handshake, he missed or didn't see (also the Wenger take on this) Evra's hand as it had dipped out of vision and the lad's only human for God's sake and it's time to lay off him and give him a chance especially as he's apologised time and time again.

Back to real life dilemmas. I'm sad that Rangers have gone into receivership, but not so much that Portsmouth are struggling - it gives Milwall a breathing space. I know it's wrong to benefit from others' misfortunes - does that make me a really bad person?*

It was personal, but wasn't there the added complication of the England team and dressing room morale, esp with the other Man City players???

What's interesting in light of recent events is that Wayne Bridge didn't have to apologise for not shaking Terry's hand.

Wayne bridge was the "victim" in that scenario, and not having had the racial element it just didn't have the tinderbox element that the Suarez incident did. It wasn't the "not shaking hands" in isolation, it was the wider context

Exactly - I was 'quoting' what I thought Fergie would say and I think he would easily turn a late, forced apology into 'apologised time and time again'.

Maybe Alex Salmond could (for the sake of Scottish Unity and in the cause of Scottish cultural strength) help bale them out with loans/tax breaks. He could make them promise never to even think of joining the Premier league and commit their future to Glasgow as a result.

And (being as kind as possible) Portsmouth will survive, and the idea that the puddy-tats would need and gratefully grab such a 'breathing space' is the kind of delightful picture that puts a smile on the face of waifs and strays everywhere.

He or his cronies in the SNP may say the right things "bad for Scottish football on a whole", "sad day" etc etc, but they'll be dancing a jig at the news.

I'm stunned. I can't quite believe it has happened so quickly and NOT as a direct result of the tax case rather that the fu*king con-man that is Craig Whyte hasn't paid taxes since he took over. ?9m is the figure owed since May.

PLUS the main tax bill relating to EBT's that could reach ?75m.

Maybe we'll come out of this stronger the other side, as long as we avoid liquidation, and take one or two seasons on the chin - we'll still be ahead of Celtic in league trophies!!!

I just hope the knock on effect isn't as wide as it could be and other clubs don't feel our demise in their pockets which they have the real potential too.

SCSB shows signs of stress. No surprise there.

PGC shows signs of being the nice person that I'm sure she is. Class is permanent. Rangers will be back somehow. Celtic came through near collapse and I'm sure Rangers will come back too. As someone who only really started supporting Celtic when they were down and out, the slow rise to recovery is the best feeling in football.

What Glasgow Rangers fans are going through at the moment pales in comparison to what the Portsmouth fans have been through over the past few years. Still, I must say it is a very sad day for Scottish football. Where once it was a two horse race there is now only one team in it. Celtic may as well be handed the SPL on a plate now and for the next couple of seasons.

Otta, I have to accept Tevez is coming back. I may not be particularly happy but that's the world football lives in. We should have off loaded him 2 seasons ago-every transfer window he has been a prima donna.
