Whilst I agree that fixture changes can be a pain in the arse for teams, and managers, surely the managers need to realise that without the tv money, they would not be in the league they are in, and buying the players they buy, not to mention "earning" the wage they are paid.

TV money only makes a fraction of clubs' income. This fraction works out to an average 36% for the top five richest clubs.

Yeah but if they weren't on TV all around the globe they wouldn't make all the other money they do. I was given a present of a premiership team photo with a personalised message signed by the manager when I left my previous place of employment. It cost ?30 according to the clubs website.

If there was no football on TV I'd be living in ignorant bliss and clubs would be a lot poorer.

Whilst 36% is technically a fraction - it's not the kind of insignificant fraction you're trying to claim.

It also completely misses the point.

Gate and match day income is typically only 10% of income in the Premiership - only rising to 25% for the very biggest teams.

So everything else is made from commercial deals which largely come off the back of the popularity of the team as a direct result of their television coverage.

Typically you're trying to change the argument to one you can win. I didn't suggest that managers had to play entertaining football. I said they should remember they're in the entertainment business - and that business is principally fed by the attention generated through TV.

So the rest of your corny cliches are hardly relevant.

Your semi-pro and premiership footballer friends were clearly very lucky to have the benefit of your wisdom, and I suspect that a lot of the deterioration in the game of late must haven been as a direct result of you turning your many, many skills to the development of the hifi industry.

Wakey wakey Hugo. The professional game have always been popular even before TV was invented. Football clubs are now more commercially aware than they were during the 1980s and TV money is only a fraction of their income.

I would say TV needs football more than football needing TV. Where would Sky be if it weren't for football?

The game of football will always be popular even without TV coverage.

I have no idea why you're paying interest to my knowledge of HiFi. I have several interests including fashion, trainers, interior design, DIY, computers, stocks & shares, etc.

Hugo, were you always the last kid to be picked for football and regularly got beaten up at school?

I imagine you got q few beatings with your attitude to people UDT.

Actually no I don't, as I doubt very much you'd have had the balls to speak like you do face to face.

The fact you think that football TODAY is not the way it is directly because of TV just shows how deluded you are.

You may be right that Sky needs football, but I'd argue they need each other. In fact, your own argument that Sky needs football just illustrates how popular it is for the TV viewer, and what huge business it is.

Otta, you really are someone who doesn't know any better. Whatever you may think is not going to change my past history or the way I've always viewed the world. I refuse to indulge in the I don't know any better logic.

Stop being a pr!ck, Otta. I've already said clubs are more commercially aware.

The Champions League, the extension of the World Cup to 32 teams, the Europa League on a Thursday, is all due to television. Part of me wishes there was less football on television. Mainly because most of it is crap, but you don't want to miss the exceptional game that comes along once in a while.

Football would survive without tele, it just means players would get paid less. There will always be great footballers worth going to see. Would Sky survive without football......I have my doubts.

Would totally agree with this statement. Football would survive, but not the game we know today.

I see your signed your last post as an idiot, Otta. Well done for recognising your true worth.

Ha ha, touche.

No UDT, you're trying to change the argument.

This discussion was about managers forgetting that their club's financial existence is founded today on TV revenues - that they are in the entertainment business.

What you tried to do was deny that with some stupid logic, and then try and twist the figures to claim that TV isn't important.

Now, instead of accepting your stupidity you're trying to change it into an argument about whether football is popular, and interspersing it with a large amount of abuse for anyone who disagrees with you.

Your pointless aggression hidden behind online anonymity reveals a man with a whole suitcase of personal problems, whether you'll accept it or not.

Well if you got something to say that adds informed debate on this thread then say it. No point in behaving like an irritating jerk by pointing your finger at me for the wrong reasons.

Otta and Hugo both dish out insults. It's only fair they get the same back.

Just to clarify, this...

make me smile, I thought it was funy.

This...

Or more to the point, the tone of it, is the sort of thing that would have me having serious words with someone in real life.

That is not me being macho, and saying I'm going to beat you up (I have no idea if I could beat you up, although I suspect you were trained by Manny Stewart, and are sure you'd have me), that is just me saying you should mind the way you speak to people.

As others have said though, I very much doubt you have the bottle to speak to people in real life the way you do on here.
