Montenegro will be thrilled. They top the group. Only the team at the top is guaranteed a place at Euro 2012. If we can't beat a team like that we don't deserve to be in the finals of any Int. Tournament.

What angers me though is that all of these players every week play for their clubs at a much higher tempo without any trouble. Yet they play for England and the game has the pace of a rickshaw. It's almost as though they can't be bothered running. Dulwich Hamlet play at a quicker tempo than that. I just don't get it.

Good point. Premiership pace doesnt necessarily benefit you playing against organised, disciplined opposition.

I didnt think it was that bad last night. It was frustrating, Crouch should have done much better with his brace of chances. Rooney was awful then almost scored as I was screaming 'will somebody get him off the damn field'. I thought it was a great save, but the slow-mo sowed it was a pretty duff shot too.

It was just one of those nights where things just won't go your way (Man U Monaco springs to mind in the days when I supported all English teams in Europe). Two stone wall penalties not given etc. Fate really should have decreed that superb Montenegrin effort go in, so we can actually count ourselves lucky!!

When Engalnd finally wake up to the fact that they are no longer a force in International footabll, they will become far less disappointed with results such as the one from last night.

Scotland game was better to watch, but the scoreline flattered the home side. Had the Spanish been more clinical, it should have been 2 or 3 nil by half time. Anyway, a side with Darren Fletcher on the losing side is always a plus.

It looks likely that the Italians will win their game 3 nil by default after their game was abandoned due to crowd trouble, caused amostly by Serbian fans apparently.

Roll on Saturday and back to the real business of the Prem.

well, yes and no. We aren't, that's clear for all to see, but that doesn't mean we can't be. Spain were the perennial under-achievers and were even worse than England for a long time, and are now the best team in the world, and I genuinely believe England can become a world force again (as long as we put most of the FA up against the world....and the Premiership execs whilst we're at it).

We've the passion for the game here, the grass roots participation and huge amounts of money in the sport.

Unfortunately we've also got huge amounts of money in the sport.

Unfortunately passion, and money mean nothing if the players on the pitch are pedestrian, and most of the starting 11 last night are not much above that level. Money is probably part of the problem. Many of our pampered millionaires don't really give monkeys about national football. Anyone for a bet on Terry being for for the next Prem game?

England seems to persist with a deluded notion that they have some kind of devine right to be up amongst the best and aren't. I wonder how long it will be before the enlightened pundits of Sky, BBC, ITV et al blame it on the influx of foreign players.

    • I have someone from Which Tech phoning on Monday afternoon. I couldn't get an earlier appointment. I am hoping that now there is a visible display, they will be able to get me online and then  remotely control the laptop and identify what went wrong and whether it is an ongoing fault or, if not, whether it is likely to recur. If they can't, or if they identify a hardware fault,  I will have to grit my teeth and let John Lewis's third party "repair" company take it away and deal with it 😭 I'm very grateful for your advice, but when I saw "Windows will restart automatically" my immediate reaction was to think "but suppose it doesn't" and "suppose the screen goes black again" which I know is very negative but I'd rather someone else was there when I did it, albeit on the end of the phone! Meanwhile, every cloud etc, as I have installed Word on my phone, which I didn't know was possible, and I have been editing and printing documents from there.  I haven't investigated whether I can do the same with Excel, but I will see what happens on Monday.
