Jah Lush
Crap goalkeepers more like. That's got to be a must have for the Gooners next season. Memo to Arsene Wenger - Go out and spend some money on a decent goalkeeper. Actually, no don't. I'd rather you didn't. matthew123
Arsenal have plenty of attack minded players in their team - so maybe an out and out striker is not as important as other Clubs who maybe rely on more defensive tactics to achieve results. jimmy two times
I think they made a mistake selling Adebayor. Ok perhaps his attitude was poor at times, but he's exactly the type of centre forward / striker they are missing. He's excellent in the air and can hold up the ball when it's played out to him from defence so that the more mobile deep lying strikers / attacking midfielders can play off him. It is so obvious to me yet Wenger is rarely slagged off for selling him. The same could be said of Fergie's decision to sell Tevez as well looking at his current form. Ladygooner
He was right to selll Adebayor - his heart wasn't in it any more. If Robin van Persie hadn't been injured in that international "friendly" last October then our season would have been a lot different. jimmy two times
Perhaps. But was it a good decision going into a season relying on one striker who has always been injury prone? jimmy two times
That's true. Then perhaps he should have been bought by United. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18997-football-focus/page/136/#findComment-484237 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
I think United are coping very well without him. League Cup winners, top of the Premiership, and in the quarter-finals of the European Cup. It would have been a needless expense and looking at their finances probably couldn't have afforded him anyway. jimmy two times
Far be it for me to question Fergie's nouse in the transfer market, but Tevez is an excellent striker. I agree that they are doing ok without him and Ronaldo. But he would definitely give them that extra edge going into the end-game of the season where every little bit extra counts. Having a player like him could be the difference between winning a cup final and losing one. ruffers
He's not worth 25 million, maybe 30? If Berbatov is then Tevez must be more.. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18997-football-focus/page/136/#findComment-484241 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
To be fair to Berbatov he has stepped into the breach and aquitted himself very well recently especially considering he has been carrying a persistant ankle injury and has often been played out of position to accomodate Rooney playing as the loan striker. Berbatov's last couple of performances playing up front on his own in place of the injured Rooney have been nothing short of superb. I think most Man Utd fans are split down the middle in their opinion of him but I think he deserves some credit. jimmy two times
I think Berbatov is a class act. People bang on about his work rate, but he's an artist, not an artisan. Jah Lush
Well, of course I'm going to agree with you JTT having watched him regularly at Spurs. He was a fabulous player for us but at a club like United he's not always going to be the main man. david_carnell
He reminds me of Le Tissier. Not the quickest or the hardest worker but a deft touch, skills, great vision and can score goals.Le Tissier would have had a national team built around him if he was from continental Europe. For once the English got a player of skill and craft. And the man was barely picked. Disgrace. jimmy two times
Berbatov reminds me more of Frank Worthington. Another misunderstood maverick who never got the credit he deserved. I still remember a goal he scored for Bolton as one of the best I've ever seen. He chipped it over an onrushing defence who were trying to play an offside trap and then ran onto meet the ball as it dropped behind defence. ruffers
Didn't he have his back to the goal and chipped it over his head as it were? he does in this one which was the one I was thinking of anyway for Bolton v Ipswich. jimmy two times
Yep that's the one. I loved all those mavericks. Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Tony Currie, Alan Hudson. No grass on the pitch hard surface, harder ball.. amazing Frank managed to get the ball under control.
