matthew123
We were shocking even before the injuries - team was still loaded with internationals. Negative tactics will always beat the enthusiasm out of the best players. Mick Mac
Absolutely right Matt. But then I have been telling my mate at work that for years.I met a friend of a friend at Christmas and we were debating Liverpool - I was doig my usual "Rafa bashing" (anna's words) and on leaving I said it might work out for the best and you might have Martin O Neill by the end of the season. He said "hold on a minute - things are not that desperate yet". I just can't understand why anyone would prefer Rafa football to MON football. I also think MON will be one of the front runners should Rafa leave - I think he's a Liverpool fan and has always wanted the job. I think he would bring a bit of excitement back to Anfield. Who would you like as a new manager? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18997-football-focus/page/57/#findComment-482256 Share on other sites

Atila Reincarnate
I wonder if Benitez will claim it was a cunning ruse to get dumped out of the FA cup so he can focus on the Europa League. As for getting the order of the Spanish Archer, apparently that's not the Liverpool way. jimmy two times
You know, he has actually had plenty of money to spend. He spent approx 35 million this summer on 2 players, one of whom was injured. He has made some really bland signings and lots of them. At what point will the Liverpool fans turn round and actually hold him accountable for that? With 35 million this summer he could have bought a few top quality players. Niko Kranjcar only cost Spurs 2 million and he has been superb. SeanMacGabhann
There is a LOT you can lay at the door of the American owners but abject performances like last night aren't one of them. If it was a one off it would still be a poor show but a trend is well and truly obvious now Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18997-football-focus/page/57/#findComment-482261 Share on other sites
matthew123
I am afraid this slump is terminal - I've seen it before with Souness, Evans and Houllier.. there is never a recovery. Before feeling sorry for Rafa he has had 6 seasons - he swung the axe on Keane after 6 months, Craig Bellamy 12 months... Rafa has been ruthless and if he were the Owner he'd have long ago sacked any Manager with his record.Rafa may still be king of the tactics but you don't need tactics when you play 90% of your games... you need passion & motivation more than anything against likes of Reading and Pompey. If people want to blame the players they need to look at the person who brought them to the Club - and also ask why other Clubs do not have this same problem. As for money it is only Chelsea (maybe Man U) who have splashed more cash than Liverpool over the last 6 seasons. Keef
Not sure what my thoughts on last night are, other than that we can't really complain (despite bit of a soft penalty to equalise).I am somewhere between Mick and Anna on this. I do blame the owners, and lack of funding. Look what Rafa has sold as well as what he has spent.I do however have issues with Rafa's style of play at times, and he is a stubborn old goat at times, refusing to change things til it's too late.I wish Anna would come on here again, as I saw her last week, and she had some interesting things to say, which I didn't know.Interesting they said that a poll on the pool website asking what fans would prefer, FA Cup or Europa League. FA came out comfortably on top apparently. I'd tend to agree, although it might be nice to win a "new" cup for the first time... Not that we look likely to win anything. One thing Anna said to me which I found striking, was that she fears we'll be the next Leeds! ... Although at least we might beat United if that was the case! ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18997-football-focus/page/57/#findComment-482266 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Liverpool who so bad last night that I couldn't be arsed to watch extra-time. Reading were by far the better team and could have won it in normal time if they'd taken their chances. It's looking like Rafa has now lost the dressing room. Okay, so suppose someone comes in and buys the club and the Yanks go? Whoever does will want to bring in their own man and it'll be bye bye Rafa. You only have to look at what happened to Mark Hughes at Man City and he had been far more successful than Benitez this season. He's running out of excuses.I only wish Spurs had been able to play Liverpool last weekend because I think it would have been one of the rare occasions that we'd have come away from Anfield with three points. bon3yard
I'm with you Jah, Reading missed 2 gilt edged chances in the first half hour and when the Scousers scored I turned off assuming it was curtains for the Championship outfit. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that quite a few of those postponed games last weekend were due more to expediency than genuine safety fears. That said I'd warrant Harry was equally as amicable and that in all likelihood there was a tacit agreement between both parties. Keef
Stoke 1 v Liverpool 0This was a truly dire fixture last year, met friends in a pub in town for it, and wished I'd not bothered! I think that was the scoreline too, we definitely didn't win, may have been a draw. For some reason it didn't attach itself to my memory banks! ratty
I have not enjoyed footy since we have been in the premiership. Rarely do you get to go and have a pint with the players anymore and almost all of them seem to have shagged Danielle Lloyd - it's vile.Give me the days when Mick Quinn, Mick Kennedy and Alan Knight would turn up in the boozer on a Thursday night before the game and invariably get smashed with you before putting in a match winning performance against Argyle on a Saturday; any time!!In fact I am quite perversely looking forward to PFC folding and being financially and otherwise involved in AFC Pompey. The only way I am going to get that involved in Pompey is if some mad Arab gives me his 10% shares...... Oh.... watch this space!
