Loz
Asset Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I know which bit you mean and it continues up the hill after the lights.> Works fine as it is and keeps the bus lane clear for buses coming up the hill IMO.It only works fine as it is because currently people - more often than not - use it in the way I describe. Which is pretty much proof-positive the markings should be changed accordingly. If the left turn traffic started trying to push across the bus lane, it would slow the buses down. kford
There is a sign IIRC (if there isn't, and you are fined for using it, you will have it quashed on appeal as there MUST be a sign every 80 metres or so (I think). Motorbikes aren't (officially) allowed in the Dog Kennel Hill bus lane, as it's not a Red Route. If there are two buses waiting at the lights, you can't get in the lane and have to either hold up the traffic when the lights turn green or crash into the buses. It's all the more dangerous because cars waiting behind the buses can't see your indicator. Equivalent situation where ED Road meets Peckham Rye gives you much more room to get into the left lane from as early as Fenwick Road. duffy10
Glad to see that I'm not the only one who often finds it difficult to follow the rules in that particular section of the bus lane. I think it's worth making a complaint. Southwark street dept have answer phone on for second day running.I was on hold in a queue for 60 mins to TFL street section customer services so hung up rather than having to pay the phone charge for going over the hour.It looks as if it will have to be a letter to TFl. Asset
I've been doing it for years - I think once I may have had to wait briefly for buses to move on before I crossed into the lane, thus making the cars behind me have to wait as well - oh dear - and I've never had to 'slow buses down' by pulling into the lane.Personally I think this is a pointless moan but if you get the lane changed it doesn't bother me either so carry on. reetpetite
Me too . I go to Sainsburys every week and have never had a problem moving into the left hand lane after the bus lane has ended. Whoosh
I apply common sense and move left where the left filter lane ought to start. It makes no sense as it's currently marked but then there's very little common sense applied regarding bus lanes. I've always assumed there's some kind of quota and they have to make enough new ones every year.Mind you, there's worse on the other side of the road where there's the traffic light system. There's the bus lane bit for buses to go through when it's green and then there's the other lane for buses to go through when theirs is red. So, the bus triggers the sensor, the traffic lights change to allow the bus right of way but then stops to let people off/on. By the time that had happened the lights have returned to their normal phasing and the bus had to merge with the normal traffic before the lights.Brilliant piece of design. Now fixed I think. Twirly
I had a check when I went up DKH on the bus this morning. There is a sign indicating the start of the bus lane, but it just shows buses, taxis and bikes, there is no indication of the hours of operation. Earl Aelfheah
There isn't really a problem with turning once you reach the dotted line IMO, except that some people undertake at speed, using the bus lane and then make it dangerous to get across. PeckhamRose
Similar situation occurs when riding from Sainsburys at the East Dulwich Roundabout and wanting to turn left towards Nunhead. You have to enter the left section at the point of the broken white line. Senor Chevalier
Are you suggesting there is no room for common sense on the roads and we should all be rule-following automatons? Sounds kind of dangerous to me.
