I was on a 343 coming back from work earlier this evening. At Elephant, the driver said he was going to have to divert and go straight to New Cross Gate due to riots in Peckham. What he didn't say was that he was going to go there via Peckham High St.

As soon as we got to the High St, it was obvious there was trouble going on, down to the right by that burger place there were a load of police vans parked up in the road lights flashing and loads of people milling around. Unbelievably, the driver stopped the bus opposite the bus station and told us to get off as he was terminating. Most of us were still standing there trying to work out a route home when suddenly a mob congealed and started smashing in the windows of the big chemist on the corner just 20ft away. I still can't quite believe TFL would drive passengers into a riot and make them get off into it.

tihs is a mad post i think

What is evident is the serious lack of police,so using the army would make up the shortfall.

This is anarchy no other excuse, fuelled by the internet and followed through by a load of stupid fools who are probably drug fuelled and pot cocky.

They do wear track suits and trainers, thats why those sports shops and chemist are being targeted.

These uneducated gang fodder will always be a problem.

Find out whose involved, cut their benifits off, throw them out of their council houses, cancel their college media grants

cancel their carnivals.

These people who disregard the areas they live in should be disregarded for any benifits other people have to work for.

The goverment should get their fingers out of there axxxs, stop dismantling the country and remember P.C Blakeloch .

Rubber bullets.

It gave an interesting p.o.v. Unlikely to ever be just one cause when things explode like this, tho historically recession = riots.

You OK, Minkey?

Hmm, wonder what my cycle in tomorrow will be like!

At around 7pm there was 50+ kids by the library swarming. Rye Lane was blocked off, but cycled through the first part before being sent around the houses (ie the one-way).

Almost bumped into two kids whilst cycling by the library, not at all threatening though.

Was around in 1981 when the environment was so different. Perhaps I am just getting old, as I didn't see this one coming.

    • Just last week I received cheques from NS&I. I wasn't given the option of bank transfer for the particular transaction. My nearest option for a parcel pick up point was the post office! The only cash point this week was the post office as the coop ATM was broken.   Many people of whatever age are totally tech savvy but still need face to face or inside banking and post office services for certain things, not least taking out cash without the worry of being mugged at the cash point.    It's all about big business saving money at the expense of the little people who, for whatever reason, still want or need face to face service.   At least when the next banking crisis hits there won't be anywhere to queue to try and demand your money back so that'll keep the pavements clear.
    • I think it was more amazement that anyone uses cheques on a large enough scale anymore for it to be an issue.    Are cheque books even issued to customers by banks anymore? That said government institutions seem to be one of the last bastions of this - the last cheque I think I received was a tax rebate in 2016 from HMRC.  It was very irritating.
    • I know you have had a couple of rather condescending replies, advising you to get to grips with technology and live in the modern world. I sympathise with you. I think some of us should try to be a bit more empathetic and acknowledge not everyone is a technophile. Try to see things from a perspective that is not just our own. Also, why give the banking sector carte blanche to remove any sort of human/public facing role. Is this really what we want?
