Trouble in peckham?

Just got home. Streets are deserted. Lewisham closed if you didn't already know. JJB Sports in Catford looted. Buses terminating and people having to walk home. Trouble outside catford garage/PC world but didn't wait around to have a look.

Just back from walking dog/trying to buy fags. All shops (except brave Locale) shut up on East Dulwich parade - had to go to L.Lane for my fix. Very nasty atmosphere but choppers are up above now, assume police are on the ground.

Several mentions of the use of BBM in steering some of the actions. There's a Guardian mention here. Several media callers, lay and journo, have all said the same thing, about broadcast messages, sometimes well in advance of actions.

Jim, calling in to BBC London, who witnessed the break-ins to ED Road Tesco and Costcutter, was of the opinion that they otoh were just a spontaneous spread away from the police presence in Peckham. He also mentioned a lone police car just passing by, probably sensibly as the two officers on board would have been seriously outnumbered.

Some reports generally of attacks on potential witnesses who happened to have cameras or phones ready or in use, so do be aware of this. Remember too, if it does come to it, that a single hair, skin under the nails, fingerprint or DNA on a dropped article, are all potentially identificatory evidence.

have a friend on a train from london bridge which has been stopped mid journey, announcement made to say ED station to be closed. Not sure what that means for anyone on that train/trying to get home.
