HI,

anyone got any top tips for teaching 6 year old to ride a bike, he was fine on a balance bike and ok with stabalisers but is NOT getting the hang of things now the stabalisers are off. im sure its the way he sits lol...My son only likes to do things he is good at and can be quite stroppy if he cant get things right the first time. Thi is treaching him a very valuble life lesson but I think if he cant get the hang of it by day 5 (day 3 currently admittedly only a couple hours of training, my back cant take the strain)this life lesson may be kicked ot hte curb!

thanks

You could be talking about my oldest when he first learned to ride his bike a few years back. I found it very frustrating but my ever patient husband would take him to the park and get him to ride on the grass. This way, each time he fell it was not as painful. If you don't have the patience (or the back strength!) then perhaps someone else in the family can have a try. It wouldn't help him if he sensed your frustration (I think I bit clean through my lip before I handed over the task to Dad).

Good luck!

My advice would be to find a wide open space on a very slight slope. The space needs to be big enough so they don't have to worry about steering and the slight slope helps them to build up enough speed for them to think they are cycling. If he has a reasonable sense of balance then it should only take a few minutes for him to 'get' it. It's the slope that really helped us and being able to go round in a circle rather than trying to go straight.

We used the cemetary on Forest Hill Road. There is a large bin area in the middle with a very slight slope which is perfect.

Beer & wine even for the little ones?? May make learning to ride a bike trickier but I bet it took the edge of the pain when they fell! :)-D

    • maybe u should speak to some of the kids parents who are constantly mugged who can’t get a police officer to investigate and tell them to stick to gb news, such a childish righteousness comment for your self  All jokes aside there is young kids constantly getting mugged in our area, there is masked bike riders going around armed with knife’s, all I’m saying is police resources could be better used, police wont use there resources to respond to car theft but will happily knock on someone’s door for hurtful comments on the internet which should have us all thinking 🤔
    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
