sociable cycle ride Sat April 14th starts 10am

Recommended Posts

This ride meets outside Canada Water library, SE16 7AR, and starts and finishes in the small square beside the library and opposite the station, now called Deal Porters Square.

It's the usual easy-paced, sociable ride using lots of quiet streets and paths but including a stop at the "Five Ways to Wellbeing" event in Walworth organised by Cool Tan Arts. More info here: http://www.cooltanarts.org.uk/events/five-ways-wellbeing-festival/

The plan is to ride along the Thames via Borough Market to Bernie Spain Gardens on the South Bank. The group will take a short break there to look at the river and then back to Blackfriars Road to the N-S Cycle Superhighway (CS6).

The route follows CS6 to Elephant and Castle, then round the bypass to Elephant Rd, and through to Cool Tan Arts on the Walworth Rd. Brief stop at the Five Ways to Wellbeing Festival in Newington Library where Southwark cyclists will have a stand -- cycling being one of the best ways to keep your body healthy and your mind cheerful.

From the Walworth Rd, the route goes back to Canada Water via Salisbury Row, Quietway 1 and Southwark Park. Route at https://goo.gl/21cxWM. As ever, everyone welcome whatever style of cyclist they are!

These rides are organised and many are lead by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk which is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for safe, enjoyable cycling in London. You don't need to be a member of anything or live anywhere to ride with us. Everything we do is free. If anyone tells you different, they are mistook.

    • The long-standing narrative "I wish the politicians would treat us like grown-ups" doesn't stand up very well when exposed to reality
    • Yeh, I heard Badenoch banging on about how 'nothing works' at PMQs, as if this was a charge that could reasonably be laid at the feet of a recently elected Labour government. She's right that things are in a terrible state, but it was her government which left the country so. Labour have a huge uphill struggle to try and halt the decline of public services and restore our finances. People need to wake up to the legacy that the Tories have left us.
    • well yep - all of that is true and Labour boxing themselves in on Brexit red lines is counter to their growth narrative as well  (albeit semi-understandable given what would happened to the media and likes of Jazzer if they are even perceived to soften them) choppy waters ahead - but that would be true of any govt picking up the pieces and in no way validated the petition hysteria
    • Clearly there is going to be no election but it was interesting listening to the Rest Is Politics this week where they discuss this and they did a really good breakdown on the risk to Rachel Reeves and this budget and that is a lack of growth and no clear plan on where growth is going to come from. Rory Stewart breaks down, very coherently, why Labour have a huge battle ahead and how their policies and budget could become a problem and echos much of which has been said on here (but without the raw emotion!!! ;-)) They also said, and this is a big issue for Labour, that Keir's approval ratings are now at -38 (and those are Liz Truss levels) and, at the same point in his tenure Tony Blair was at +68. Well worth a listen, especially if people want to hear balanced discussion around a variety of subjects.
