Denmark Hill Stn crossing mess

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the reason why the bus stop has been moved beyond the traffic lights by Denmark Hill Station? Just for clarity I mean on the side of the road coming from the Lordship Lane towards Denmark Hill.

Moving the bus stop beyond the traffic lights means that the shortest route to the station is to run through the traffic. This has meant that people in a rush are just throwing themselves into the road traffic. I was startled to find my car surrounded by pedestrians recently whilst waiting at the lights something that has never happened to me before there.

Of course if we had a decent transport system in London blah blah blah etc

Move the Bus Stop back to where it was!

I think this is a really bad decision, I got off a crowded bus today with lots of others and not a single person used the traffic lights, at least when it was closer to the bus stop it was used more often. This would only make sense if they re-sited the bus stop beyond Windsor Walk closer to ED.

Yes - they've moved the lights not the stop but it has the same effect. People getting off the bus now have to walk back past the station in order to cross the road at the lights, which is rather pointless, so instead everyone just crosses the road through traffic at the bus stop. If TfL had any sort of common sense at all, they would resite the stop before the new lights, which also reduces the chances of the bus getting held up in traffic and making people miss their train.

Every day since it was installed, I've had to toot or brake for bemused pedestrians wandering across where the old crossing was. Maybe they're not used to it yet; it's easy to walk to and from work on auto-pilot, or as posts above suggest, the new location is counter intuitive. We like to take the path of least resistance.

It probably doesn't help that pedestrians see the entire raised area as a crossing, when it's just traffic calming.

I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the patient drivers who stop to let us cross after we've got off the bus and are running for the train.

yes, it was a really daft decision to move the lights but equally I'm wondering why the bus stop on the *other* side of the road has been moved so far down the road as surely it's basically at where the new entrance to DH station is going to be?!

    • I've done some searching and come up with these.  The first looks very helpful for getting to know about the Hub itself, and the others may give some useful history.  I've yet to look through them myself. https://carnegielibraryhub.org.uk/
    • I'm with Octopus, and I have no idea what to do either. Finding it hard to get my head around it all. They seem to have a 15 month fix with no exit fees, however I'm not sure if I exited whether I could just revert to whatever I'm on at the moment, or whether I might find that whatever that is might no longer be an available option. I tend to just heat whatever room I'm in and/or use a heated throw. And use the microwave where possible unless I've got an oven full of stuff which I can then freeze most of.

    • ??? I feel really weak and  dizzy, I don't think it's a good idea at all to be out. And my vitamin D level is actually much too high. Last time I had blood tests, my  GP told me to stop taking vitamin tablets.  But thanks for your concern! I appreciate the advice, but I only came on here to see if other people had similar symptoms!
