ManekiNeko
Hi, I have nine bags of clothes and some bags of old bedding/pillows etc. I'd like to donate these to charity but don't have a car to transport (so clothes donation bins are a no go). Anyone know the best way for me to do this? I've already contacted Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers a couple of weeks ago but got no response, and don't want to resort to putting them in the bags that come through the door, as I read that hardly any of the money goes to charity. I'm based at HOP.Help? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/187763-clothes-donations/ Share on other sites

dippybird
Hi, I have used Ald Life charity. They have shops based in Peckham and Sydenham. Really friendly and they will come and collect your donations. Their number is 020 7701 4388. Hope that helps. ctovey
Ald Life is great. They usually collect within a couple of days and don't charge high prices in their shops. They also have a new shop at Camberwell Gate. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/187763-clothes-donations/#findComment-1235248 Share on other sites

Sally Eva
Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers would take them. They give out clothes. They have a session in the Copleston Centre on Tuesdays http://www.sdcas.org.uk/our-centres.htmlI'm sorry they didn't respond. I know they get snowed under but are grateful for clothes. You could try again or drop in. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/187763-clothes-donations/#findComment-1235298 Share on other sites
P.O.U.S.theWonderCat
Forgot to mention - most places will not take pillows or duvets. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/187763-clothes-donations/#findComment-1235646 Share on other sites
ManekiNeko
Thanks everyone, will try Ald Life and see if they will collect. For the pillows/duvets etc. I heard that some cats and dogs homes may want them. Has anyone any experience and know if they will collect? Jennys
You can stuff them behind the panel at the side of your bath. They will keep the bath water warmer for much longer. ManekiNeko
Thanks for the suggestions, I had ALD come pick up lots of donations last week. Very simple, no fuss, recommended. flocker spotter
ALD are well organised and will take pretty anything and select what they need and move the rest on. If you have no leanings either way, it is far better to focus on Human charities rather than animal ones, as domestic pet charities are proportionatly overepresented in the charity sector Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/187763-clothes-donations/#findComment-1251426 Share on other sites
gabys1st
St. Christophers Hospice shops and Brirish Heart foundation also collect. BHF also collects furniture and electrics seperately. BFH shop prices are said to be highest so if you have anythiing really good worth considering donating to to them.I know that BHF and Aldi also take clothing sheets towels (not pillows or duvets) that are in too poor conmdition to sell. The need to be seperately bagged and labelled "RAGS".Also please note that if you are a TAX PAYER, it is worth saying that you want to do GIFT AID when you are asking for collection. Charity can claim a percentage of profits cost.Thabks to this forum and fact am downsizing I have learnt a lot :-).
