trytapas
hi all i like to introduce myself to your forum, i'm jason and have just signed a new lease on the page 2 pub.the pub will close on monday november 5th for a cosmetic revamp.i already have 2 well established eateries in honor oak park - mclarens contintental cafe & tapastry.my intention is to conjule both affordable food concepts into the pub, which means a daytime cafe style brunch operating 11- 5pm (MON-SAT).........evening tapas - 5- 10pm (see my reviews on www.toptable.co.uk) traditional sunday roast 12- 5pm............. with live music every sunday evening.the building in itself has so much character which is what has atracted me to taking the pub on.what i dont know is the history of the pub?? i would welcome any comments or suggestions on what you folks would like in improving the pub??look forward to hearing from you regards jason Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/ Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
JasonNice one - thanks for letting us know about developments. You're right, it's a great building and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do thereI've only been in the area 7 years or so, so don't have that much history on the pub. When it first re-opened 5 or so years ago there was a pool table in the back room and some great music on the soundsystem but I never got to go as often as I'd like but will be checking out those tapas asapAnd is that the first "conjule" on the forum? well done sir! dita-on-tees
Like sean, I havent been here long enough to know the history of the place, but all sounds like good stuff and no doubt a welcome addition to Nunhead.I think i have said before that the food in Tapastry is rather yum, so happy to see it branching out in Nunhead.definitely keep the style of the pub, sometime I feel I am drinking in a branch of habitat by way of IKEA in some bars these days.... Maybe a bit of live flamenco style music or some salsa evenings would in keeping - the back room is big enough in the current Page two. Obviously I would love to see a bit of Burlesque cabaret but i feel it may lower the tone of the area and we wouldn't want that now...... good luck with the new placeD Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-52897 Share on other sites

PeckhamRose
Hello. I live round the corner from you but tend to go to the Clockhouse - no telly and good music and great beer. Will your pub have wifi facility? If so I could spend afternoons there working! Will you be a football pub? Doesn't sound like it, which is good. Crystal Tips
wasn't Page 2 called the Edinburgh Caslte or something of the like - about 10 yrs ago when I indulged in a memorable Nunhead Pub crawl, large parts of which I can't remember, this was to be our first pub and it was closed - thus I never went in - sorry there - anyway McLarens does the best breakfast around here in my view - better than anything on LL - even the breakfast brunch at Franklins which aint 'alf bad - good luck Jason Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-52931 Share on other sites

trytapas
thanks for all your feedback....ive already opened the bar up its amazing how bigger it looks.....i have noted all your requests, but without sounding like a politician i will do my upmost to cater for all walks..most important i want people to feel safe when they come to the page, i applaud what's been done at the rye, gowlet, old nunshead & the herne tavern e.tc as a local myself it's good to have choice...therefore for starters the day of it being a late drinking hole is gone, no bar tabs(sure you like to see it still open this time next year)... i will operate pub hours which is 11- 11 mon - thur.. fri & Sat will keep open till 12.30 - 1am...i had the brewery down today... i am looking at starting with 4/5 draughts with a guest ale to start of with, i will see what the demand is like for bitter and make my judgement.wifi is defo on the list, with the brunch style menu it be good to atract yummy mums, business meetings, or even a city slicker on a sicky skive... e.t.cby the way the pub will be child friendly, which means it wont be an indoor adventure playground...i feel a 7.30 pm curfew sounds fair....let us know what you think?? not decided on the livesport dilema- i feel that one is a no win situation for me...any one got any ideas??and gidogecko of coarse the pub will be gay friendly.....thanks again for your imput....will keep you all informed about the opening...and dont worry it will be immenent cos i'm brasic!!!!all the best jason Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-53162 Share on other sites

Dodo1
How about a micro brewery? you could then brew an ED/ Nunhead/ Peckham ales; and we could then see which is popular! dita-on-tees
would have though there would be a reasonable demand for ale, though it can be difficult to store. I for one would happily empty to my purse for the pleasure of a pint of black sheep, or landlord, or the rev james or some of the fine fruity ales from northumbria..... I dont know how much freedom breweries allow you though.Live sport - agree is a difficult one - maybe good to have the big games but not become famous as a football/sport pub - I think as a "lady" it may put me off if it was always full of men shouting at the tv. The pub is big enough though to have a football zone and a non football zone. embellina
Much as I like live football/sport, I do think it can ruin a pub. Alwyas loved the cosiness of Page 2 - especially when the knitting circle were in (tuesdays?) - and would like to see this retained. So I vote no sport (sorry) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-53909 Share on other sites
cEDric
Does anyone know what is happening with the Page 2? Am I right in thinking it has now reopened and if so, has anyone been yet? SeanMacGabhann
I would have thought the new owner, trytapas, would be on here to give it a plug if it was re-opened so I don't think it's there yet. I could be wrong however.. Still, if you make it as far as there and find it closed I recommend a few more yards to the green and the Nun's Head pub - establishing itself as a real favourite of mine. Sister operation to the Gowlett but a completely different look, feel and menu Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-59354 Share on other sites

trytapas
hi folks, thanks for your recent posts & apologies for not keeping you up to date.....i will make a descision early part of next week when i'm opening....i have learned from past experiences not to open the doors pre-maturely, its neccasary for a good foundation to be put in place..i.e - a proper running kitchen, clean toilets, electrics that are not going to trip every 5 minutes e.t.c..........what i have noticed since being down nunhead lane day in day out for the past few weeks, how sucsesful & friendly all the local shops are, that in itself gives me alot of confidence...in particular sopers fishmongers on on my doorstep - ive always liked keeping it local with my purchases...its also inspired me to restructure my menu....you'll have to cross the line and pop in to see what i have up my sleeve...i might have to sue ayers the bakers mind!! there fantastic sausage roll offer is giving me extra winter body blabber...it was a pleasure also to chat to john from old nuns head & the gowlet the other day, i think there 2 lovely pubs that make me feel as a customer relaxed and safe with friendly staff...ive said it before it's not about competing- flexible choice is my moto, you will have no execuse locals for a decent pub crawl in 2008...all the best jason Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1865-page-2-public-house-nunhead-lane/#findComment-59745 Share on other sites
toptulip
Hi Jason and all!I am really looking forward to trying it out! Have been to tapastry and enjoyed it. Page 2 was good a couple of years back when I lived in Nunhead but it went very down hill IMO...so it is great it is changing hands and name?! - you asked about the history of the pub? I heard from locals it was called the something else. I think it would be great for the pub to have a new start and reinstate the original traditional name (or part thereof) and facia, am sure the original signage from the 20's or 30's (not sure how old the building is) must be lurking there behind the big black boards - I still see them when I pass by sometimes, are they coming down? I wish you luck Jason! I look forward to local tapas which is far better than Barcelona!
