Hi.

We also had a rocky start with BF, and for the first few weeks combo fed before getting to exclusive BF.

If you use Facebook I found the group La Leche League : South East London so so helpful and still do as we move through different stages.

One of LLL leaders is a lactation consultant - Maria - did a home visit with us when we were first back from hospital. Some 1 on 1 time with someone who understood my concerns and could help with the practical was worth every penny.

What at the time felt like we?d never get the hang of very soon was second nature. I didn?t think I?d manage a week of BF my littl boy, he?s 10 Months now and we?re still going strong!

If you?d like me to DM you Maria?s contact details please let me know.

Otherwise you can find a list of local LC at http://www.lcgb.org/

Firstly - its really not unusual for breastfeeding to be hard at first - thats not to say just hang in there and it will improve, getting the right help is really important, more that its pretty common to have issues upfront but then go on to feed successfully.

I had lots of issues with breastfeeding my first and saw the lovely Anna Cannon a number of times. She used to do the breastfeeding cafes, but seems that she now does private work. Her details are here:

I liked her because she was not only calming and helpful, but really realistic about what was achievable.

Good luck!

Just a thought, it might be worth checking to see if your newborn has a tongue-tie. It?s very common but also very commonly missed. It was several years ago now but we saw this lady... http://katherinefisher.co.uk/the-london-tongue-tie-clinic/ . They also used to have a tongue-tie clinic at Kings and some of the drop-in breastfeeding cafes might help too. Good luck!

    • That explanation sounds highly unlikely!  Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely. Was it 1 April?!
    • Looking for a short length of electric (twin & earth)  lighting cable. Most likely there could be some in a skip near you??
    • Southwark's recycling guidance says to put shredded paper in the blue bin in a paper envelope or "small box". I've got far too much of it for that  (confidential stuff going back decades) - thanks to the EDF member who kindly gave me a shredder! It would be a "massive box". I have barely started  the shredding, and I've already got an extremely large bagful.   I've read online that you can put it into  large clear plastic bags in the bin for paper,  provided you  clearly label it "shredded paper" and it is obvious what it is. Does anybody know if Southwark would accept it like that? Alternatively, can anyone make use of it for animal bedding or packaging material or adding to  compost?
    • I'm happy to report that some foxgloves are now looking great in my garden. The bees are loving them. Also managed to grow some corn poppies from seed. I've left some decaying logs in the corner so maybe there are some stag beetles there.
