Well said. By the way did you know that I'm a Guardian reader? No nor did I!!! I love the way Loz jumps to huge sweeping generalisations. Pompous arse.

Or I just know how to press your buttons...

Quite possibly, yes! The battery chicken argument was useful to throw open the wider hypocrisy (and reverse snobbery) of the non-veggies that popped up. But to show the veggies that their food is also mired in animal cruelty on a much bigger scale that fois gras could ever reach was indeed a pretty fine Christmas bonus. Any complaints about foie gras from them now would just be hypocritical.

Looks like the veggies can't have their cake and eat it too!

Nah, you're just a pompous arse.

Well I suppose I would prefer to be that rather than being a self-righteous, sanctimonious hypocrite like you!

Well, I suppose that is one way of saying you have no counter argument. I didn't really think you would.

This is a bit of an odd thread even for the EDF, and I've taken the bait, but never mind:

It's no secret that major food manufacturers are still using battery eggs, and for anyone who actually cares it's pretty easy to avoid them.

Co-op, M&S and Waitrose only use free range eggs in their own brand ranges. Other supermarkets/manufacturers have made commitments to cut back their use or phase them out altogether (e.g. Hellmans switched to free range recently).

So I regularly enjoy a wide range of cake thanks very much!

And how do you I'm a hypocrite, you pompous arse. How do you what I eat? Your view point suggests that, regardless of whatever suffering is visited on the creature and the way its reared, provided it tastes good you don't give a fcuk, which makes you a nasty pompous excuse for a human being. Will you being baby seal clubbed to death to your diet, afterr all according to your rationale (or marked lack of it)it doesn't matter how they are treated as long as they taste goodn happy days. Despicable.

I think Loz was suggesting that if you were refusing to eat Foie Gras because of the suffering of ducks and geese, that you'd need to follow that principle through to all the other animals in our food chain.

If you didn't do that, then you would be simply picking and choosing what suffering you thought was okay according to your own favored foods - a practice that would undoubtedly be hypocritical.

Far from saying that it didn't matter how animals were treated before consumption (which is what you're accusing him of), he was pointing out that Foie Gras was simply one item an extremely extensive list when it came to 'cruelty'.

It's worth pointing out that when you get independent scientists involved in an appraisal of the treatment of ducks and geese in the creation of Foie Gras, that they can find NO evidence that this process is any MORE abusive than any of the other standard processes in breeding fowl for consumption.

Before anyone does their nut over that comment, please read it again: scientists didn't say force feeding wasn't cruel, that just said that they couldn't find it was any more cruel than the rest of the insults we dish out to poultry.

Or more correctly because you don't possess an original, rational argument of your own. Proof positive, as if it was needed, that you are and arse an much much worse.

Really? Is that the best you can do to avoid answering Hugo's points?

Thanks for your concern, but it takes a lot more than the ramblings of an odious EDF poster to spoil my day. People with such disgusting tastes need to be told they're wrong as they can't see it themselves. As for being wound up by Loz, I'm pretty sure his blood pressure goes through the roof every time I tweak his pompous nose.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it, regardless of how wide of the mark you may be.

    • Wow  So many armchair accident investigators putting forward their theorys. My thoughts are that we should wait for an official investigation to tell us what actually happened.
    • Chester is a large ginger and while cat with a fluffy tail. He went missing from Casino Avenue on April 8. We only recently adopted him from Battersea, so he may be a bit disorientated. Please check any sheds or garages in case he's got trapped - he's not the cleverest cat. If you spot him please contact 07905 209 508. He does have a microchip.
    • Hi. Have you managed to find any groups in the area? I'm also a woman with ADHD and looking for support/discussion ideally locally.
    • Went to the junction today to check the "scene of the event" to try and work out from the tyre marks on the road and the damage to the kerb, what were the contributing factors to the accident. Here are my observations and deductions. 1.Compaction type refuse collection trucks, such as these, are exceptionally "tail-heavy" due the the weight of the hydraulic compaction mechanism and the fact that this weight is positioned on the  rear overhang ie behind the rear wheels. 2. To compensate for the extra weight, the truck is fitted with a "tag axle". The tag axle is located  forward of the rearmost axle. When fully laden, all the rear tyres will be running at very close to their operating limit. 3. The tag axle has only 2 wheels as opposed to 4 wheels on the rearmost axle. So on either side at the rear, there a three wheels. So if one rear tyre on the near side has lost pressure,  the weight carried by the remaining two is increased by 50%. 4. Being tail-heavy with a high centre of gravity, the driver of such vehicles should be ultra cautious when cornering. 5. When turning to the right,  the weight imposed on near side tyres is further increased depending on the speed involved. 6. The two long curved tyre marks on the road  suggest that only two of the 3 tyres on the near side were taking the weight.  7 These curved tyre marks end abruptly and I'm trying to work out exactly why. This spot is  very close to where the  near side rear wheels  slide up against the kerb and the wheel rims gouge out chunks  of the kerb stones. There is a possibility that the driver braked late and so caused the tyres to loose all grip and so slide into the kerb. If there are any forensic traffic experts around, I would welcome their take on this.
