Hello, just want some reassurances really. My 15 month old has been throwing up and off food for a week now and it shows no sign of stopping (was very sick today). He's not got a temperature anymore (did have at the start), but has a very snotty nose/cold as well (started a few days ago).

He managed to pass it onto his sister and myself, and we were both sick with flu symptoms for about 24/48 hours but then recovered and stopped being sick.

I'm just concerned that it has lasted a whole week. He's visibly lost weight and is just eating the odd rice cake or breadstick. He drinks, but not as much as he did. He is not dehydrated, but it's still a worry. I saw the GP and he checked all the usual (throat, ears, chest) and they are clear. I got no advice really.

Just wondering if there are any other stories of vomiting lasting this long, is it a particularly nasty bug going around? Any tips on easing the sickness? I've stopped his bedtime milk (was sick after) but have been giving into the morning bottle as he goes ballistic if I don't give it, plus he's totally starving by 5/6am. Heard a tip about watering down the milk today, so will try that tomorrow morning. Or should I totally stop the milk altogether? Dr seemed to think the advice about avoiding dairy didn't really apply anymore....

Thanks

Hello

Last year my 2 year old ended up in A&E on a drip after throwing up and being feverish and completely out of sorts for 3 days. Was eventually diagnosed as a urine infection. Did your doctor do a urine sample?

When she was in hospital the doctors told me to try to stick to bland food but if there was something she particularly asked for to give it. They also recommended sugary squash to drink to try to get a bit of energy back into her.

A week is a long time to be throwing up. When did you see your GP? I would be inclined to go back for a second opinion if he doesn't seem to be getting better.

Really hope he's better soon. Its awful when they're ill.

My 18 month old had a similar thing a few months ago, though from both ends! He caught it off a friend who attends nursery and seems it had been doing the rounds. We were unsure about stopping bland food and milk but eventually we stopped all food for 24 hours, gave plenty of water and watered his milk down 50/50 and even 75/25 and this worked a treat. It went on for over 8 days before stopping and was the same with my friends little girl.

Hello,

My eight month old caught a similar sounding bug a few weeks ago. He was vomiting on and off and eating very little for about ten days. He was still taking milk but nothing like as much as usual. He didn't have a temparature - at least not for long - and mostly seemed ok in himself - but like you I got concerned that it had lasted so long. I took him to the doctor after about four / five days and they checked all the same things but said he was ok and not dehydrated and that it would pass. I think there must just be a particularly nasty bug doing the rounds. He did manage to pass it on to a couple of his friends (or else they came down with it indpendently!) so it's obviously fairly virulent and widespread. Personally I think he picked it up from Peckham Pulse Jelly Babies... Hope this is reassuring. If it's the same thing he had it does pass eventually.

    • maybe u should speak to some of the kids parents who are constantly mugged who can’t get a police officer to investigate and tell them to stick to gb news, such a childish righteousness comment for your self  All jokes aside there is young kids constantly getting mugged in our area, there is masked bike riders going around armed with knife’s, all I’m saying is police resources could be better used, police wont use there resources to respond to car theft but will happily knock on someone’s door for hurtful comments on the internet which should have us all thinking 🤔
    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
