Can any Charter parent out there explain to me how this works? My yr 8 has told me that next term they will be sorted into 'Pathways'. I presume this is an euphemism for streaming.

My main concern is whether they are put in a certain Pathway for all subjects (ie regardless of their competancy in individual subjects). Also possibility of any movement between Pathways once the student has been put in one.

I could and will ask the school, but am particularly interested in the consumer's view.

Thank you for your help!

Students get sorted into their pathways around the end of year 9 and come into effect in year 10. The pathways are yellow=top, green=mid, blue=bottom. The yellow pathway is for more academically able students, leading to up to 12 GCSEs. My daughter, who was in the green pathway, ended up with a very poor mix of subjects because of various timetable clashes. She wasn't able to choose a language or an arts subject, for example, because of clashes with compulsory subjects such as RE and citizenship. Not sure if this is still the case.
1 child in yellow, & 1 in green; so far so good. Both able to have an excellent mix of subjects of interest, & appropriate to them including languages, arts, sciences & humanities. Am very happy with the way the pathways are structured and delivered. Haven't yet had any subject clashes at all (& don't know of anyone in childrens' friendship group who has either). All good so far for us. :)
