I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I can't see any recent thread for it..

I'm soon to be a first time mum and feel totally overwhelmed about WHERE to start and importantly, WHEN to start looking for a good primary school for my daughter. Should she be on awaiting list already despite the fact that she hasn't been born, for example?!

It's brilliant that there are so many schools around here, but I can't find any up to date advice about how good they are.

I live on Upland road very near Goodrich. Any help gratefully received!

Thanks

For state schools you apply for nursery when they are about 2 1/2 to the school and for reception the January before they are 4 via the lea

For nurseries aged 0 onwards you should go on waiting list ASAP, this prob involves a fee

Even if you don't wNt to use a nursery for z baby, you might wSnt a morning only place from 2

There are different nurseries catering for those things, in general

If yOu live near goodrich then that's the school you hVe most chNce if getting into

If you're looking at state schools it's not really a question of choosing the best one, it really comes down to what you are allocated based on where you live.

I'm also on Upland, and have a son at Goodrich nursery who is about to move to reception in September, and my daughter starts nursery in September. I'm happy with the school and my son is settled which is the main thing at this age.

You really don't need to worry now - apply for school nursery as Fuschia says, at about 2.5, and the application for primary places happens a year later. Heaps of time yet!

    • It's a Microsoft . pub file, and it does open OK, but that's a discontinued program which used to be part of the full Office suite. I've got an old machine with old software and it's still on that.
    • Even with Acrobat pro - it does not open even though it is an acrobat doc.   Error: "Adobe Acrobat could not open 'April 2025 Dulwich Hill Newsletter.pub' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then choose Save as Adobe PDF from the PDF dropdown in the Print dialog."
    • I got my hair cut there and was very happy with it. I thought the pricing was fair - less than Blue Tit which is where I used to go. Jonny used to cut my hair years ago. I went to book him but ended up with Gabriele who did a great job. Will use them again. Also their junior price goes up to 17.
