Resurrecting this thread as I think our 3 week old boy may have a TT. He makes this clicking noise when he is feeding and is in so much pain with wind having gulped in all that air. Is the fastest way to get a referral through visiting bf cafe or GP? A bit confused. Also, does anyone know what the waiting time for King's appointment is like? If the NHS route will take more than a week, I think we will go private as the poor lad is in so much pain. He only cries when hungry, after a feed before being winded and when having a poop.

Have found Ann Dobson who is a lactation consultant and does home visits to do TT snip too. Does anyone have any experience? Would consider Katie Fisher but trip to Croydon rather daunting as I haven't fully recovered from c section yet....

You may already have left but I realised I could more helpfully last night have shared my experience! I met Ann Dobson at the TT clinic at King's, and found her far more helpful and sympathetic than Katie Fisher by the way. My daughter's posterior TT was spotted by my HV. She tried to refer me, we waited a week, and then she found out she couldn't refer. I then raced to a BF cafe that day, Wednesday, and the clinic appointment was the following Tuesday. However, the referral criteria include you trying a feeding plan first, which was considered for me to have been that week I waited fruitlessly, but you may find you're asked to see someone twice before being referred on the NHS.

Good luck. I found the whole thing extremely stressful so you have my every sympathy.

I recently had to look into this for my new baby - I was told that going through the referral system at Kings could take 2 to 3 weeks. Going private was immediate (although feeding is now going really well so I have postponed). Having struggled for 8+ weeks with my first child and tongue tie my preference is definitely the quick option - ?90 is money well spent if it saves weeks of pain, depression and anxiety!

Good luck x

Thank you both. Tried to go to bf cafe today but with feeding and settling, still in bed! I have managed to leave a message for Ann Dobson to call me back so I'm hoping she can do a home visit soon. Pickle, in case was Katie Fisher's house in Croydon easy to get to? Am not very mobile at the moment but if we can't get a home visit, we will go to Katie's place in Croydon I think. He is gaining weight (has gained 400g a week after birth) so I am not hopeful of sympathetic diagnosis on the NHS... Maybe I'm too cynical!

my experience with the TT clinic at kings was that once we had been referred there by the BF clinic, we were seen really quickly - I think within a week. And my daughter was feeding ok and gaining weight, and quite old in comparison to a lot of the babies they normally see, but they were (in my opinion!) quite keen to do the cut!

So unless they've changed a lot since we we're seen a year ago, if you are having trouble feeding and baby has a tt, they'll do the cut.

But if someone can come to your house to do it, sooner that you can get to a bf clinic, I'm sure that would be preferable!

Good luck

Hope it all improves really soon

Hi Amydown,

We went to see Katy Fisher to her place in Croydon and it was easy to get to by car, not sure what it would be like by public transport. Her consultation room is upstairs, which I know is tricky to do when recovering from a c-section, but going to the hospital and waiting could also be as wearing. Very best luck getting things sorted.

In my experience the system at Kings means you have to be given the diagnosis of TT, but then wait a few days and have to get a SECOND diagnosis - even if by the same person a few days apart, Claire Kedves or Joanne Joseph etc - before you can be referred to the clinic for the snip. The bf specialists despair of this red tape but you have to do it. Once you have been referred to the clinic you should get the procedure within days, so weirdly it is the referral process, not the waiting list at the clinic, which can often delay.

I think that what others have said about it being ?90 very well spent to have the snip done privately is spot on - though I feel for you having to make the journey when still recovering. But then being at the TT clinic takes several hours so that would be a lot of hanging around in a waiting room which might be tough at the mo.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

This thread has been an absolute life saver. I contacted both Ann and Katie initially and Ann didn't get back to me (must have had a busy day) but when I spoke to Katie to discuss us coming to Croydon, I mentioned that I had had a c-section and she offered to come to our house for an assessment which was so kind of her.

She has just spent an hour and a half with us for a full assessment and has written us the referral letter to Dr Patel (the surgeon that does the procedure at King's I think) and we are going to go and see him next week to have the procedure done on medical insurance to cut out the waiting time as Katie recommended.

I wish I had known more about TT the first time round - chatting to Katie about our older son's early days, we thought it was highly likely that he had a TT too. I just hadn't thought of it at the time as he was putting on weight and midwives seemed happy. Oh well. At least we got it figured out this time round!

    • The top front tooth has popped out.  Attempted to fix myself with repair kit bought from Boots, unfortunately it didn’t last long.  Tooth has popped out again.  Unable to get to dentist as housebound but family member can drop off.  I tried dental practice I found online, which is near Goose Green, but the number is disconnected.   The new dental practice in FH (where Barclays used to be) said it’s not something they do.  Seen a mobile dental practice where a technician comes to your home and does the repair but I’m worried about the cost. Any suggestions please? Thank you
    • So its OK for Starmer to earn £74K/annum by renting out a property, cat calling the kettle black....... Their gravy train trundles on. When the Southport story that involves Starmer finally comes out, he's going to be gone, plus that and the local elections in May 2025 when Liebour will get a drumming. Even his own MP's have had enough of the mess they've made of things in the first three months of being in power. They had fourteen years to plan for this, what a mess they've created so quickly, couldn't plan there way out of a paper bag.   Suggest you do the sums, the minimum wage won't  be so minimum when it is introduced, that and the increase in employers national insurance contributions is why so many employers are talking about reducing their cohort of employees and closing shops and businesses.  Businesses don't run at a loss and when they do they close, its the only option for them, you can only absorb a loss for so long before brining the shutters down and closing the doors. Some people are so blinkered they think the sun shines out of the three stooges, you need to wake up soon. Because wait till there are food shortages, no bread or fresh vegetables, nor meat in the shops, bare shelves in the supermarkets because the farmers will make it happen, plus prices spiralling out of control as a result of a supply and demand market. Every ones going to get on the gravy train and put their prices up, It happened before during lockdown, nothing to stop it happening again. You don't shoot the hand that feeds you. Then you'll see people getting angry and an uprising start to happen.  Hungry people become angry people very quickly.
    • Eh? Straight ahead of what?  If you turn left at Goose Green, as you also posted above, you end up at the library. Then the Grove. Then, unless you turn right at the South Circular, you end up at Forest Hill!
    • yes I’ve spotted this too — it’s near me and I’m very intrigued to see what it’ll be 👀👀👀👀
