I have an old motorcycle helmet I want to get rid of.

I heard that some bikers donate old helmets to hospitals and emergency services, so that first-aid teams can train.

Does any one know if there is any such service in the area that would accept an old helmet? I have tried contacting a few email addresses of King's College Hospital, but I have had no reply.

The helmet is still perfectly functional, no accidents, but I find it heavy and with poor ventilation - despite the pinlock, it fogs up way more than others. Understandably, there is no market for 2nd hand helmets - I would certainly never buy one.

It's some time ago now but I gave my old ones (one surplus to requirements and one that had been in a crash so had to be replaced) to St John's Ambulance in Wimbledon for training purposes, I'm sure there must be a closer branch who might be interested.

    • I believe that Crown Post Offices are normally owned by the Post Office, and are frequently in valuable high street sites, so I would not be surprised if their sale value (or rentals to be derived if not sold) would be enticing, particularly for those offices running at slim or no profit margins. Happy to be proven wrong, of course.
    • The name has got a 50s feel about it so in my mind it’s for older people who have very specific concerns. Nothing wrong with that.

    • It is a challenge.  These sorts of services are increasingly expensive to deliver as fewer and fewer people use them.  Most people don't want to have to go back to using their lunch hour to queue up at the bank or Post Office.  So the options  are - reduce the service, make it more expensive or the tax payer subsidises it.
