Winter babies club (due Dec 2011, Jan/Feb 2012)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Congrats on scans etc.

Suzie.. I had my bloody car broken into on Friday so wouldn't have been able to make it anyway! the little BLEEPS took my sat nav and left me to clear up glass from my daughters car seat and toys :(

Don't worry... car wasn't in ED! I imagine it was bored kids as there was a substantial amount of wine in the back from our recent visit to France and it was all left untouched! Plonkers!

Anyway...

Emma and Co.. deffo on for Friday this week.. Although Ava sleeps from 12:30 ish so she may be in buggy sleeping whilst I gossip and have cake!

Shall we say 12pm and then agree a meeting spot with those who are interested?

Caroline- I am also up for the Evening meetup. My daughter will be at nursery/grandparents for 2-3 days a week when the newbie is born so I will probably like to re-live all the activities I did when I was a first time mum... So would be nice to meet first timers too.

We are around most days until Sept 1st (when I return to work full time) so would like to cram in as much socialising before I go back. So anyone who cannot make Friday or the evening meet up, let us know!

Mums expecting in Dec- You must soon be approaching the 20 week scan. so good luck and let us know if anyone is revealing the gender!! Emma, although heartrate was fast again at midwife check, i'm still hoping for a boy!

Anyway.. hope to see as many of you as poss on Friday.

Hi all,

I had my scan today and very excited and relieved to report that he or she is developing well and looks gorgeous already. I am due on the 18th of February. I am definitely up for meeting you all on the 25th of August. Look forward to having a good chat with you all.

Congratulations Sal, that feeling of relief is amazing isn't it?! The 25th is now firmly in my diary - lovely Mr Pickle has even agreed to miss a night of hockey training to look after the kids (guess he figures he better not argue with a wife pregnant for the 3rd time...)

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hello all and welcome to the other newbies. Congrats on all the healthy scans too- huge relief!

Green and Blue on the 25th sounds great! Will definitely try and make it along.

Is anyone signing up for NCT classes? I have my name down for one, but just seen how inordinately expensive it is! I've only heard good things about them from friends who've done them so hoping it'll be worth the expense. Any experiences?

Hi Ladies,

Well, it appears I am the only January mum-to-be, everyone seems to be having babies in February! I don't think I am going to be able to make it on the 25th which is such a shame, because I would have loved to have met you all, however would definately be up for another meet up at some point after that.

Tomo, I've just signed up for the ante-natal classes with Sofie Jacobs www.sofiejacobs.com A friend of mine had her baby in April and attended Sofie's classes (upstairs at the Mag). She is about the same price or not much more than the NCT classes I believe. I decided to go with her, as after some research, I liked her more 'rounded' approach to things, ie not just a focus on one specific option for things, but a seemingly more balanced view on a number of options available. Additionally, I liked that she spends time covering what the hell happens once the baby is home!! If you sign up for one of her courses, she is also available for email and phone call support and operates a Friday afternoon drop-in session for her clients, which my girlfriend has found invaluable.

Hope this info helps.

Hello everyone,

Just spoken to Green and Blue and booked a table for the 25th. I booked it for 12 people -there's about eight of us now so I thought I'd book extra in case others join us in the meantime.

Really looking forward to it.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've had ligament pains for the first time this week - hoping that means a little growth spurt is on the way since I still look like I've just eaten too many puddings!

Hello Mothercourage - and everyone else

I know you asked me about Yoga when we met and then we never got anywhere with it, but I have been thinking of setting up a Saturday morning class at about 9.30/10. I currently teach pregnancy yoga on Monday evening 6.30, but an extra one would be good.

Bear in mind that I live in Camberwell, very near the swimming pool/ The Green.

Please get in touch if you are interested in either the current Mon eve class or a potential Sat morning class.

I would love to attend on 25th but i finish teaching at 9.30 so realistically I doubt I will make it there before everyone else starts heading home... Maybe I will call Mothercourage to check if anyone is still there before I make the trip. If not, I hope to join next time.

Hi all,

Thanks for your congratulations. It's so nice to be able to share it with people now. It makes it feel real now and even more exciting. I have had the pleasure of telling all my friends and family in Australia and here in the UK and finally tell my work. It's so good not to have to pretend that I'm feeling well and perky at work when I'm really feeling tired and sick.

I'm desperate to find out whether anyone else is suffering with an awful taste in their mouth. It's the one thing that is driving me bonkers, I can deal with nausea and the tiredness. The only relief I get from it is when I eat, drink, chew gum and gargle with mouth wash but unless I'm doing one of these things then the taste is with me. I would love to know if anyone has this and knows of any remedy or can assure me that this will pass in the second trimester.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all on the 25th.

Hi

I will also try and come along on the 25th, thank you for organising it!

Sal, I also had the horrible taste in my mouth and found that sipping orange juice worked to help hold it off as well as constantly sipping water. When I was going into a situation where constant swigging wasn't possible I ate a chunk of crystalised ginger with the sugar washed off. I couldn't drink milk or eat eggs either as that made it worse. It didn't ever really go though and I still have it at times now (15 weeks) but it is so much better, I sympathise!

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Elli

Hello to everyone ... we're like a proper gang now! Can't wait til 25th to be able to put some faces to names. Bee74, that's a great idea about a sat morning yoga class. My only worry is that I'm relatively far from you. To ensure I make the class regularly it needs to be somewhere I can walk or cycle to. I bet there would be loads of interest if you suggested it to the rest of the forum..?

Hi all,

Tomo and anyone thinking of the NCT classes, I found them great the first time round (I did the 3 day intensive course)Mainly because my partner came with me (against his will) and finally got his head around it all and much to his delight made some new dad friends. The support from the other ladies was invaluable for me (and still is) as although I have alot of friends locally, you really need someone who understands what you are going through. We made some great friends and even went ski-ing with one couple when our babies were 5 months old! (thinking about it again this year but newbie will be fresh out of the womb so hesitant to commit!)

Saying that I didn't discover the 'winter babies club' first time around and it seems another great way of meeting mums-to- be. Meeting up with Mothercourage again today has cemented my daughter's love for her daughter and has made me feel reassured that I have someone remind me how this newborn thing works!

BB- I have also been getting ligament pain (although less so this month) and have popped out a bit now.. so fear not, that muffin top feeling will soon grow into a beautiful bump you can flaunt proudly!

I haven't told my work yet about my pregnancy but feel the time has come as when I return in Sept with a suspicious 5 month old bump, they might start wondering.... perhaps this rambling post is my way of avoiding drafting the email!!

Anyway looking forward to the 25th!

With regards to NCT classes - first time round I was also due in January, and when I inquired about NCT locally there were no classes running in Dec/Jan, so we ended up having to do a 3 day intensive course in Brixton. Personally I didn't find the class very useful (had basically read or heard from others all the stuff we learned) and due to the fact that we were all spread over Herne Hill, Brixton, ED etc. we didn't forge friendships at all. I think there are more teachers locally now, but worth checking now whether courses will be running that suit you.

I don't want to be negative, that's just my experience. I found I met far more people by just going along to classes locally, and even just wandering in the park. I didn't go to classes for #2, as it was still all far too fresh in my mind at that point (#1 was just 9 months old when I got pregnant again).

I have what feels like a massive bump - I'm not entirely sure how many weeks I am (I guess that's what happens with #3!), 15ish?! I haven't put much weight on anywhere else, but am well and truly in maternity trousers. Oh, and my belly button has popped out already... aaaaaagh!

Congrats to all the new ladies on this thread, numbers are growing.

Just wanted to say having been (by proxy) part of this club last year it's both poignant and great to see this years' version going strong!

re: NCT. I realise I might sound negative about them, but approaching from a maybe-not-everyone-can-afford-them perspective, I just wanted to say the local free classes at ED hospital were great and more than enough to be getting on with. Some of the issues discussed in the classes came to pass and because we had attended, we were able to not panic and realise it was all within "the norm"

So don't feel you "need" to

    • I had no idea about the sourcing of the paving stones - where is the info on this? The extension of the paved area seems completely unjustified- plus, there is a cycle lane right thru the middle so there are bound to be some near misses with pedestrians.
    • That's really awful. There must be someone further up the management chain who could be made aware of this?
    • I'm assuming that anybody who has a cat can afford  its food, litter, vets' fees etc. Nobody was saying that two quid is "nothing", but it's cheaper than some brands of cat litter, so was hopefully useful to the OP. Still, hopefully your post made you feel better 👍 🤣 We still don't know why there was a bag of cat litter at the bus stop! Surely it would be rather difficult to take it away unnoticed if the owner of the cat litter was  also at the bus stop? It's not like someone distracted your attention and picked your pocket and you didn't notice till some time later! But what is also confusing me is, if the OP knows where the thief lives, why don't they go and ask for their cat litter back?
    • The market is only there for a few hours on Saturdays! Surely all street markets are "a bit tatty"! That seems a strange reason to close a road permanently to traffic!  There is already at least one seat  in North Cross Road (which seems to be quite well used),  apart from those for customers of The Palmerston,  and several of the shops in the road have greenery outside
