MissyMack - Not rank to borrow a birth pool, you just need a new liner (?25 online) to make sure its all hygienic. If nothing else you can set it up and hang out weightlessly while watching telly on maternity leave. Thanks for Arnica breakdown - have heard good reports so will be investing.

I'd be up for a first aid course if it goes ahead, please count me in Mooncake.

Look forward to seeing any who can make it on Weds...

Hello all!

Glad to see so many other homebirthing birthing hopefuls! I'm with Brierley too K4ti, they've been great so far.

As for the birthplace study- the gutter press as usual have vastly exaggerated the risks. I spent the morning reading the report on the BMJ website. The increased risk of complications affecting the baby, was 5.3 per 1,000 births in hospital compared with 9.3 per 1,000 home births. However the slight increase only applies to first time mums- of which I am one! There is no increase in risk for second time mums choosing homebirth. There are huge benefits to birthing at home and we're literally minutes from Kings should we be one of the 35% of first time mums that need to transfer.

Hope you all enjoy the Hypnobirthing. I finished my hypnobirthing course run by Sophie Burch last week. I'd highly recommend it!

I'd also be up for the first aid course too Sara.

Hope you and your bumps are all keeping well. Hopefully see some of you next week.

Hi All

If I havent popped already, I'd be up for cake next Weds.

Just wondered if anyone knows of a cleaner they could recommend in the area? We have family descending on us next week and wanted to spruce the place up a bit in preparation, and I cant really bend to clean anymore!!

Thanks

Alix

Hi all

Can't do Weds as I am taking myself and my enormous bump to the theatre that afternoon. I am now on maternity leave though so generally up for coffee/cake/playdates.

Thanks for the tip re arnica Anna. Jut bought some tabs for labour but will give it a try now as am suffering awful backache at the moment.

Sara - I think I would be very interested in an infant/child first aid course. Its something I have been meaning to do for a while.

Hopefully see you all on Thursday if I can sort babysitting. And I will see the hypnobirthers Tuesday night. Bee thanks so much for organising.

Lindsay

Hi Sara,

I would also be interested in the infant first aid resus course.

I wish i could join you guys for coffee and cake on Wednesday. Maternity leave still feels so far away!!

See all the hypnobirthers on tuesday and the rest of you on Thursday night.

Sal

Hello,

No luck yet with resus course. I'll try calling the chap again tomorrow.

Re: Wednesday - breastfeeding workshop is just the NHS one which I signed up for from the forms when I had my booking with Kings. It's a LONG session though so won't be around until 2pm-ish, so I'm guessing I may miss you at the Gardens cafe.

I should be able to come along on Thurs night - decided I am probably a bit too pregnant now, so haven't taken up tickets to see Jessie J & Kelly Rowland that night! :(

Sorry I haven't been particularly active on this thread, or attending the nights out - now in the throes of obstetric cholestasis and having a bit of a miserable time (at least having had it twice before I know what to expect!), so not really up for socialising at the moment as dealing with the other two kids is enough for me on very little sleep! Will definitely be up for meets once I've had the baby. Now that I'm ill I'll be induced at 37/38 weeks, which brings my due date back to around the 14th January.

Hi

Thanks for the arnica tip, anything that helps, right? Sounds like we'll clear Health Matters out! I'm also considering home birth now, not particularly through choice, if I'm honest, but my first labour was so quick that given that I have a 3year old at home and my mum would take nearly 2hours to drive up to ours, we may not have any choice! Has anyone been to the home birthing workshop on the Saturday morning? I'm struggling to get babysitter for me to go to it, so wanted to check if it's useful before going to greater lengths to sort out.

Wish I could do Wednesday, but that's my day of appointments- yoga, midwife...and haircut for me, more excitingly!

Would be up for coffee next week though if anyone's interested. My son's normally at nursery, but I'd love to bring him along if other people have theirs out to play, as we don't know many people with nippers in the area.

Would anyone be interested in a night in on Thursday 15th Dec? I know a lovely lady who does manis, pedis, facials, mini massages etc, so we could have a chilled one? I could host at my place on Copleston road. I won't be offended if people prefer the pub meet up, just thought it might suit some of the more exhausted people!

See you all Thursday, anyway, looking forward to it.

PS (computer was playing up and wouldn't let me finish message) sorry to hear about people who are struggling with various pains at the minute, it's such a weird mix of wonderful and really tough this pregnancy malarkey.

Pickle, if you ever want a bit of company, I'd be happy to pop over bearing cookies or something equivalent to take your mind off things (sometimes a good thing), it's frustrating wanting to be sociable but not feeling up to it.

Take care everyone! Hannah xx

hi Hannah,

I went to the homebirth talk on a Saturday and thought it was excellent. A couple who'd had a homebirth were there to tell us their story & answer questions (hers was a 30+ hr labour) as well as lots of printed info to take away. It was extremely popular the day we went though - room was a bit small!

The only slightly annoying thing was that people still early on in pregnancy asked lots of irrelevant questions that you'd cover in antenatal classes, so session was a fair bit longer than if they'd just focused on Homebirth questions.

If peeps are up for a night in on 15th, I'd be happy to join - I'll be 39 weeks by then... maternity leave starting next week. :)

Pickle - I hope you're alright. Ditto what Hannah said.

xx

Hi all,

Try www.firstaidforlife.org.uk for baby resus course. I did it first time with a group of us organising it to be held in The Rye Hotel Pub but they were happy to run from someone's home too.

Caroline, that Hacknet Doula article was a good read.. I didn't take too much notice of the report but it's reassuring to hear the proper facts and figures in that article.

I'm well up for a pamper evening HannahKT... keep us posted!!

Wed meet up details to follow... otherwise see you Thurs pm.

Hello,

I've contacted Emma at First Aid for Life - she's had a cancellation for this Saturday morning so could do a course for up to 8 people. It would be ?45 each for 3 hours - but given the short notice, I will ask her if she's willing to do it for her normal weekday rate of ?35 each.

It sounds like a pretty comprehensive course and good value compared to other ones I've seen. They have plenty of manikins and you get a comprehensive paediatric first aid manual to take away (and certificate too if you want it...)

Drop me a PM if you're interested - and also if you're able to offer up your home as a venue(!!). I'll try calling around a few places in the meanwhile, but I guess they might charge us.

I've attached the Course Outline she sent me - but they can also tailor it according to which areas we're most interested in covering.

EDIT: Just to say - now looking at evenings for w/b 12th December...!

Hi all,

Sorry I've been a bit quiet on this, a growing bump combined with a toddler and a house that needs lots of decorating is keeping me very busy. Sorry to hear about all of you who have sore backs and Pickle, hang in there, hope you get a bit of ease soon. I too will be heading to Health Matters over the next week or so, arnica sounds a good idea- thank you Anna.

Sadly got plans Wednesday but def up for meeting for coffee/and or playdate with little ones. We are often around Thursdays if anyone fancies?

Also up for a first aid course but can't do this saturday. If anyone else can't do that day happy to host one here at some point. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all Thursday night.

Laura x

Hello all,

Sorry I too have been so quiet - this time of year is crazy at work. Sorry to hear from those in the wars, particularly poor Pickle - sounds ghastly and makes my rotten cold pale into insignificance.

I can't do first aid this Saturday but I am very keen to join if another one is organised. Happy to host too - though gingellico, perhaps I can join your group?

My cold will probably keep me away on Thursday but hope to see you all at some point in the future.

Caroline x

HI girlies,

Sorry it has been ages since I have been on here - things have been rather hectic, but hopefully will slow down after next weekend - hurrah! Sounds as though all of you have been quite busy as well though. Sorry to hear about those of you who are having a really rough time of it, especially you Pickle, it must be quite tiring 3rd time around to have to deal with the same medical problem and with 2 little 'ins in the picture! I am suffering from back ache and carpal tunnel syndrome which can be quite annoying and sometimes debilitating, but apart from that have had it fairly good so far, so do count myself very lucky! On the bright side, at least we all know most medical issues or aches and pains will have an end sometime in the next 3 months!!

Sara, sounds as though the baby resus course will be great. Hubby and i are actually doing a baby first aid course through his work the week after next, so am looking forward to seeing what is covered in that. That will be the final course we do before Sprout presents him/herself. We finished hypnoborthing last week and have our final ante-natal class next week, so just waiting on dates for the breastfeeding workshop at Kings and may pop along to the home birth workshop one Saturday.

Hannah, was lovely to bump into you, albeit briefly and while I was on the phone, last week. Sorry to hear about your pelvic pain - hope you get some respite soon! I am definitely up for coffee/cake/lunch/drink etc from next week onwards, so do PM me if you fancy a catch up! Will also be trying to finally make a another group meet up in a fortnight's time, regardless of whether it is at the Actress or a mini-pamper session - great idea btw Hannah! Also, is your yoga session, the one at Dulwich Therapy Rooms on Wed morning? If so, am planning to go tomorrow, so might see you there.

On the topic of catch ups - I am now completely confused about cake and coffee tomorrow - is this a definite plan? MissMack?

NOt much else to update, have had 3 scans in the last month, the first 2 of which indicated I was carrying a monster (the readings were literally off the scale - not figuratively!), however my scan yesterday indicated growth had calmed down a bit and he/she is now just at the upper end of the normal scale, so not off it which is slightly more reassuring, although I do know there is only so much creedence you can put in the scan measurements! Will just have to wait and see!

That's about it from me for now, the home stretch is on us all, and now count Emma and Alix will provide us with our first Winter Babies Group baby in the next week or 2 - good luck ladies, we'll all be rooting for you!

Cheers cherubs

hello,

First Aid peeps have gotten back to me. W/b 12th December they have a trainer available for any weekday evening.

Let me know what works for you and I'll keep a tally. My personal preference is for Mon 12th but I will be free any of those days (if I'm not a mother yet!).

xx

12th would be good for me too. I meant to do this last time, but never found anyone to run a course that fitted with dates.

Hope you are all well.

I may try to join you for coffee tomorrow although I'm meant to be working as W with Nanny. If not maybe see you on Thursday night.

Ruth

Hi all

RE: tomorrow wednesday.. Strike day wahoooo!!

    • In fact there was a promotional leaflet came through the letter box today, for sending by RM's parcel post by buying online.  There are also options mentioned for having the labels printed  at a Collect+ store or at a Parcel Locker.  More info at https://www.royalmail.com/.
    • Is it? Let's see  Farming is a tough gig with increasingly lower returns, if farms have to sell off land to pay inheritance tax it will reduce their ability to survive. Which in real terms could mean more farm land lost and more reliance on imported food which sees money flowing out, not in to the country.  But I guess as long as you get cheap food that doesn't concern you 😉  Lol "what about the cars"  again Mal... like a broken record....  Governments know that squeezing car drivers for more fuel duty will drive down income from taxes as people switch to electric, which would leave them with a black hole in income. Guess the fuel duty is a fine balancing act tiĺl enough electric cars have been sold to raise tax revenue from their use.
    • Hello - if anyone is in need of sofa/rug/carpet cleaning, we have recently had a very good experience with husband and wife team Kate and Vlad. They're a very reasonable cost and the result was great (don't look too closely at the colour of the water that comes out!) Kate's number is 07731 140246
    • You can buy your parcel postage (tracked or any other) online from Royal Mail, they will come to your address with the label and pick up your parcel, (no extra charge) alternatively, you can print your label at home and apply to your parcel for them to pick up from you also. The other option is to drop off your labelled parcel to the Royal Mail Delivery Office of your choice.
