Can anyone recommend swimming lessons locally to East Dulwcih-Dulwich for a nearly 4 year old, ideally a holiday intensive course (considering the one in St Dunstans, thanks to the person who posted that) but wonder if there is something nearer? Could also be private one to one tuition.

Thank you!

JAGS sports club do great swimming lessons. I think they usually do a week long course in the summer holidays, but they haven't released any dates yet. My daughter aged 4 does their weekly beginners lesson and loves it, but you have to be very quick to enrol as they fill up straight away! JAGS

JAGS lessons fill up really quickly, but are meant to be really good.

Beckenham Spa is good for a 4 year old as they have a teaching pool which means they can touch the bottom. Obviously, a bit further away but it's not too bad on a weekend - 15 mins or so.

Our 4 yr old is currently having one to one sessions at Beckenham Spa, she could swim before we enrolled her but needed lessons in 'technique' -ie, she was exhausted after swimming a short distance. She's only had 4 lessons but has come on brilliantly - her teacher is lovely, very geared towards little ones - last week she swam a whole length of the big pool without any support/aids! I'd definitely recommend Beckenham Spa.

Good luck x

    • Pyracantha? Covered in white flowers and pollinators in the summer followed by berries for the birds. Can be a bit of a thug though so you have to keep on top of pruning it through the thorns!
    • The last Guardian version of The Observer is this Sunday. Will anybody read the new Tortoise version? They’ve been quiet about publicising it or saying how you might subscribe to it or anything practical like that.
    • On the matter of gender, raised early in the thread There were a couple of male tailors in the area, first generation Carribbean, I think there was a time when many emigrated with these skills  Go back 60 years and you may have had a suit made by a Jewish male tailer in the East End  Not sure if it is common to have males in this field of work nowadays although I expect Saville Row is still male dominated.
    • I was at Brockwell Park greenhouses very recently, they don't have any plants for sale which are suitable for my purpose (though that's not why I went there). I'd be very surprised if the Marsden Road place did either, as I need a fairly large prickly shrub! Thanks, I used the term nursery a bit too loosely, sorry. I did mean including garden centres. Your post is useful, thanks.  I'm not looking for anything unusual though, just a prickly shrub to deter cats! Much as I love unusual plants, I only have a very small garden. Many of my plants (some unusual and some I had had for years) have disappeared due to wood  pigeons trampling everything under my bird feeders in their quest to eat anything edible dropped by smaller birds using the feeders 😭
