jollybaby
Back to a more lighthearted subject than the breast feeding . . . Am wondering how much longer I'll be able to enjoy the luxury of a morning and a post lunchtime nap. Miss JB is nearly 9 months and currently sleeps for about an hour around 9 am and then for an hour to an hour and a half around 1pm. She wakes at about 6.15 am and is exhausted by 9am and so the thought of her staying up till lunchtime seems.. . . Umm painful! When did your little one drop their morning nap? Did they do it by themselves or did it require some coercion ie by gradually reducing the length of the nap. snowboarder
We held onto it for AGES - finally dropped at 17m (!) after shortening and phasing it out from 16m. Mine woke really early too - but there is a school of thought that says they wake early but know they will get a catch up in a couple of hours! Dropping it deeply painful process - lots of near misses falling asleep in the buggy on way back for lunch, tantrums over lunch etc. And we moved the lunchtime nap forward to about 12.30 (was sleeping at 2). I reckon you've got some time yet! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17891-when-do-they-drop-the-morning-nap/#findComment-445595 Share on other sites
Ruth_Baldock
Ours dropped his around 11months, but I reckon he could still do with it at 18mo tbh...like SB, we have lots of crashing out in the buggy/tantrums over lunch, then ne naps from 1-2.30/3 typically, sigh, Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17891-when-do-they-drop-the-morning-nap/#findComment-445601 Share on other sites
bumpy
Keep for as long as possible. :) Our morning nap reduced from an hour to about 30 minutes around 13/14 months until eventually dropping, currently 18 months and gets to 1pm lunchtime nap though will nod off for 20 mins or so if we're in the car around 11/1130am Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17891-when-do-they-drop-the-morning-nap/#findComment-445606 Share on other sites
Gussy
Daughter dropped hers at 13 months (was fairly quick to do so by herself - took about a week, but I had to move lunch and lunch naps forwards for months as she was knackered by 11.30am!). My son is 14 months and still very much in need of his.....not sure when its going to go yet! I'm going to wait and see and let him drop it by himself - he is also an early waker so needs his bed by 9am. mockney piers
At 457 months I could really do with one, but society frowns on it, especially at my desk. Ruth_Baldock
Mockers; I still nap in the day with Seb :) And that's at...er...308 months. May I suggest napping UNDER your desk- and putting a casette on repeat "Oh bloody hell, dropped my contact lense, better have a look for it..." as some sort of explanation. GSJ57
From personal experience - my little one stopped at 12 months then started again at 16 years.....right in the middle of chemistry class. crystal7
E was about 19 months, very late. She was (and still is mostly) a very early riser (5.30 is normal) so she really needed it. Even now she will sometimes fall asleep at 10 given half the chance. jollybaby
Thanks all - will stop fretting about losing my morning tv session for the time being.Mockers - I once worked with an eminent hospital consultant who in the middle of clinic would stop and say I need a nap. He'd sit with his head on his desk for 5 mins and then open his eyes and pick up the case notes for the next patient as if nothing had happened. Pickle
My (sleep loving) son kept his right up to around 18/19 months, my (not so sleep loving) daughter dropped hers at about 9 months. Oh how I loved that little bit of time at 9am when my son was in bed, I used to have a late breakfast and a shower and it was bliss. Changed days now! mockney piers
Great suggestions; actually I will admit to having a rare power nap in the loos for 5-10 minutes when my deskbound micro-sleeps are becoming problematically obvious!
