WANTED: big tree trunk

I'm on the look out for a big length of tree trunk to cut into live edge boards to make a table in a school nature garden. The size of trunk that would work is 3.5 metres long with a circumference of around 2 metres.

I'm involved in a community work space and we could come with milling equipment to cut the trunk up on your property and take it away. Other members of the work space would also use some boards for other projects as well and we could leave you some as a thank you if you want to make something with them. So if you are planning to take down a tree of this sort of size at some point, please let me know. We can't cut it down for you or remove the rest of it but a tree surgeon might give you a better price for the job if they don't have to cut up and remove the biggest section of the trunk.

The table will be used to sit a class of 30 early years children around and will enable them to have some lessons outside and make the most of the school's lovely nature garden and spend more time in it. So I would be very grateful if anyone has a tree that fits this description that they are planning to remove that they would be happy to donate. It would be a really wonderful resource for lots of children. Most kinds of tree would work, expect elder which has a soft spongy core so is not good. Oak or sweet chestnut would be amazing.

The school is Bessemer Grange Primary School and the community workshop is the South London Makerspace. Thank you for reading this post!

    • Hi I am looking to join some local businesses networking events and wondering if anyone can recommend any. I know there used to be one (Cooking with Scissors) but that’s not running any more. Thanks.
    • Eats Dulwich has just reviewed Arapina, including its hot chocolate!  I assume they read the original first and  very long post on this thread before almost all of it was removed. Interesting to have another opinion!
    • I see you have just reviewed Arapina's  hot chocolate 🤣
    • HA! If only . . . The other night I took the 37 from Herne Hill to Goose Green, only it was diverted via Denmark Hill. That would have been ok, except when the driver reached the junction for Denmark Hill she wasn't allowed to turn right as there were road works on Dog Kennel Hill starting at 8pm and all buses were being diverted via Camberwell Church St and Rye Lane.  I got off there at Kings College Hospital, as I figured it was closer to home than Peckham . . .  Still good for my step count I suppose.
