Otta
Hi, I'm putting this in this section, because I'm after personal experience.Neither my wife nor I drive, and since having a kid, and with another on the way, it would be a whole lot easier if we did. I can't drive due to sight issues, so it's down to the wife. Can anyone recommend a good instructor, particularly if they've learnt in their 30s, and been rather nervous about the whole thing? Link
I had my driving license when I was 37yo and learned from scratch with Lanes. It worked well for me as I was able to change one instructor when I got bored of him and was offered a lady instructor within the same organisation. Being an adult learner, I did not find learning the rules of the road and learning to drive hard because I know I needed to get my license as I have two daughters under 4 at the time and the demand of getting around was just getting to me, so my eyes were on the 'prize'. However, sometimes I found that the instructors can be a bit intimidating or was I just feeling too old? I would suggest going with any reputable organisation with few instructors so if there is any need to change instructor, it will be easier. All the best Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17858-driving-instructor-for-my-wife/#findComment-445110 Share on other sites
snowboarder
My sister had some refresher lessons with Michael who I think has been recommended on the forum before - 07956 477626. Sorry no more details - but the lessons must have been fine as she does drive now (after not doing so for about 10 yrs!) Sonners
I had a refresher lesson with Michael having not driving for 10 years. He was very calm and lovely and gave me lots of confidence as I was pretty nervous after such a long break. I think he'd be good with beginners too! JessB
If that's Michael (barrett ?) who works through the AA then I learnt with him whilst pregnant with my first and he was amazingly calm and i passed first time. That was after I had started learning with a fairly local lady, all in all a very strange 12 hours where I mostly heard her life story and was only allowed to turn left! After an hour with Michael I had (gasp!) Turned right, gone round a roundabout and gone on dual carriageway!! mfp
I would also highly recommend Michael from Dulwich Driving School. I learnt in my 30's and he was brilliant. Otta
Thanks everyone, we'll look in to these. Can anyone recommend a female instructor though, as my wife would feel more comfortable with a lady. Susan Doyle
Hello all, about four weeks ago I decided to start driving again after a terrible accident about twenty years ago, just like the rest of you I was surrounded by available instructors that all had excellent references, but I decided to take the references given by the DSA, I chose a grade six instructor, which is the highest grade that can be given to an instructor. His name is Silvano, to be honest I was very sceptical about his grade but he showed me the original certificate that was awarded to him, he was even prepared to show me his grade on the official DSA web site.I always thought that I would never be able to drive with a male instructor but I was wrong and I am pleased to say that Silvano after just four weeks today gave me the confidence not just to drive, but to drive on the MOTORWAY. Silvano is amazing and I can see why he is so highly graded by the DSA.Call him on 07702615834Susan Doyle. Sol
I got my licence last year, pass the exam first time, never drove before. I used 4 driving schools, the best one and last one I used before passing my test was Brittania Driving School (A guy call Matthew I think) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17858-driving-instructor-for-my-wife/#findComment-447373 Share on other sites
