We have a budget of ?50-100 depending on contributions from others. They are first time parents of twins in a flat, so with limited space. We would like to get them something that would be useful and/or indulgent for the parents and something for the babies (I was thinking books).

Any suggestions? I can't remember the newborn period as it was a haze of sleep deprivation!

Hi,

Get them 'baby shapes' by Helen Dorman. ?10-15 ish, and is a giftset with 4 black and white books for newborn and an amazing paper shapes mobile. We used with our 3 babies and have gifted it to many other people. Maybe get two for twins,... You certainly need two mobiles ideally...

Regards, Nicky

I would get them some ready made meals for the freezer (see Cook) and 'vouchers' that you'll look after babies for X number of hours/times....if it stretches then a massage voucher....maybe membership to the local twins club....or ?100 to spend at the local twins club sale (will get more and needed stuff that way)....
To be honest, having had 'multiples' whilst living in a small space, I'd be inclined to ask the parents what would be most useful. There are certain things you don't need with one baby that are very useful when you have two or more at once, eg screw-on highchairs, bath seats. I'd second the suggestion of pre-cooked meals for the parents but perhaps check they have a freezer first.
Gift vouchers for a local restaurant. It's hard to justify spending money on yourselves after a baby and a few months in they will desperately need a night off!! Everyone will get them baby things and you just dont need that much (especially when you live in a flat).
We received a batch of frozen meals and a bottle of prosecco from Cook from friends and it was an amazing gift. (Think it was about a weeks worth)We really appreciated not having to think about shopping/cooking in the first few days. I recently bought the same for my sister who loved it too.

Just thought I'd feedback on what I bought...

...cook vouchers were high up on the list but as the new parents have since decided to move into the grandparents' I decided against it.

Instead, I got a Beatrix Potter & Winnie he Pooh complete collection - the hardback volume rather than the collection of small books.

Classical music cd for babies, which we found a godsend to evoke sleep & drown out background noise. It was also a break from nursery rhymes

Silver plated photo frame from the white company

Two small hand creams from l'occitane for home/changing bag

We were given some practical things when we had babies but have since given them away and, being quite sentimental, I thought it'd be nice to give something they would enjoy/keep (maybe even cherish) for some time.

Thanks, again, for the advice above.

    • The family may of course donate to a charity of their choice. The fundraiser will remain open, there is no way of closing it early and it was started before I was made aware the family had said they only wanted prayers... I know them fairly well so am hoping they accept the funds for Akif's children in good faith. They can always put savings aside and I'm hopeful the children will learn how well liked Akif was locally. Thanks and please let's avoid further comment. We will never agree, so please donate or don't donate as you wish 🙏 thanks
