We get terrible connection with sky. We?d moved from Virgin which wasn?t much better. Have always done it with Tv packages, but now I?m wondering about getting EE broadband or as I can get a deal with my phone.


Anyone else having issues with Sky connection speed? We are apparently getting 0.2 and should be getting near 20. They are reluctant to help or keep us informed!

Lucky peterstorm1985. We have BT but only one point five megabytes per second. Spelled out in full for effect. To be fair it is constant and works well at 1.5mbps and this speed does not seem to affect our BT Vision telly watching or playback at all. Oh and I am just on the SE15 side of Peckham Rye Park. My neighbours however have BT Infinity, but it won't stretch to us.
I am with EE and can recommend them - not the super fast just basic which works for me. Not on TV package 'cause I don't need it. Was with Virgin years ago and would never touch them again or Sky. Very happy with EE and with several moves over the last few years they have been reliable and consistent. paying ?20 per month.

for ADSL it depends on how far you are from the exchange which is around the end of court lane and lordship lane. for FTTC it is how far you are from the cabinet (the green box in the street)


However each provider will have their own equipment configured in their own way at either end of that copper wire (exchange and your house i.e the modem / router) and transport the data traffic through their own networks once they have collected it from the exchange.

I was about to ask a similar question - we are just in SE15 have Virgin for phone, broadband and TV and have had enough - wifi is very very patchy, phone often doesn't work, and we don't really use the TV - use an Amazon stick to access BBC iPlayer, Netflix etc.


We would like a package that includes recordable TV, reliable wifi, and a phone line. Because of the recordable TV objective, I think that really leaves us with Sky, BT or Virgin. We walked away from Sky in a different location years ago, and no idea what their performance is like here, while we have heard mixed local reviews on BT.


Any warnings/recommendations?

If you find yourself with Infinity go for it all. We have been told about the new GFast thingy, which is something that can be planted within - say - a block which gives superfast lots of mbps. But BT Openreach - it's beyond their reach to get this to us in SE15 yet.

I use Plusnet, but I'm shortly coming to the end of my current contract and will be comparing different options.


It's OK, their customer service has been good when I've needed it, with helpful advice.


WiFi is patchy but I don't think that's Plusnet's fault, and moving the router a very small distance greatly improved things in a bad corner of my living room.

I have been looking into this as well as Having problems with EE but now that I have been told they all use BT lines, except Virgin & Sky assume they are much of a muchness. Looking into fibre next in the hope that I don't keep on loosing connection.. Vodafone does a package that is reasonable but not sure if it is for mobile or landline.. There again, folk moan about Virgin here as well so who knows..!!

I have talk talk.... Generally good I say. But then again I only use it for general surfing... No downloading of game playing etc.


I would say though, if you do have a problem it's a nightmare trying to get it resolved.

Been with talk talk for at least 10 yrs... Had possibly two spells of no internet for around a week to 10days... & yes what I consider to be shitty customer service!


I did have a chat with the dude who came to rectify my last problem, which was sometime last year....

He told me all the services from the different providers are pretty much the same & they also all use the same contractor who come out to deal with issues customers have.


It seems they are all just as good/bad as each other!


Just to add my cousin has (I think) faster fibre direct which is more expensive but he says it's definitely faster/better.... Especially if you use gaming or downloading etc.

If you look at MoneySavingExpert, they have comparisons of all the providers depending on what you need, together with points for customer service.


I personally wouldn't go with anybody with a poor customer service record, regardless of how cheap they were.

My broadband contract with Plusnet ends tomorrow. I should have done something about it before but haven't. All this info makes my head hurt.


I'm going to see what's the best deal they can offer me and they compare it with the others.


ETA: Sorry, that MSE link doesn't seem to give the customer service ratings, but I have seen them somewhere recently, possibly on another page of the MSE website.

Wondering what everyone is paying.


I've just been quoted ?26 pcm (rounding up) by Plusnet for unlimited fibre broadband and line rental, on an 18 month contract.


That's quite a bit cheaper than I'm paying at the moment (?34 pcm) but also quite a lot more than if I was a new Plusnet customer, especially if I went via Top Cashback who have ?80p cashback on Plusnet, which over the 18 months would bring the monthly cost down to around ?20pcm, if my maths is correct.


It's a hard call, because I'm wary about changing from Plusnet for several reasons, partly in case anything goes wrong with the switch and I'm left without broadband for a while, and partly because Plusnet do have good customer service, in my experience.


ETA: I did do some negotiating last time, but I'm not sure I've got the energy to go through all that again ....

After a long and hard battle, I am staying with EE for ?25 for an 18 month contract with fibre. Getting installed on 21st. Also got a ?30 credit for absolutely appalling aervice but, now it is jumping about all over the place. Been particularly bad over the last few days.


Only other company was Talk Talk - straight 12 months with no increase but just to tired to fight and argue - just want something reliable and works - I have been with EE for 10 years..!!!


Didn't realise they were a wholly owned sub of BT.

BT have got what looks like a good deal on at the moment, which having just spent some time chatting to a (very helpful) Plusnet person but not being able to get them to reduce the fibre deal below ?26 pcm for an eighteen month contract I am thinking of going for.

Has anybody else got good or bad experiences to share re BT broadband? Fibre, that is.


ETA: The deal looks a bit complicated though, plus I don't need or want BT sports! I'm going to have a proper look at it over a cup of tea!
