Blah Blah
A shared bunk room is not a home. It is meant to be temporary and short let. Any suggestion that this is suitable for people in work over fixing the ridiculous housing and rental inflation in London is wrong. Blah Blah
No Alice it is not. Going down a route of accepting that housing anyone long term in this kind of accomodation is wrong. Tenants have rights under the law which will not apply in this kind of accomodation. Angelina
The place in NCR was a complete dive. Filthy, not hygienic, desperately in need of maintenance. How anyone could think people choose to live like that is beyond me - it is more likely that this is all some people can afford. It's also tricky renting privately - huge deposits etc. and supported accommodation is hard to find. Blah Blah
It is a step back to the coffin box dorms of the Victorian Era is we are ever going to seriously consider this as an approptiate type of accomodation for the low paid. This mentality has to stop. A short let hostel for travellers is what it says it is. It is not a substitute for housing longer term and nor should it ever be. Abe_froeman
Yes these kinds of dorm are completely normal for backpackers allover the world. If it were used by workers that might actually be a step up, particularly for those who seem to be living in the back of some of those run down old white vans and lorries that are permanently parked up at the end of residential streets. I think this is probably in contravention of EU regulation. Perhaps after we take back control, we'll have some common sense returned to British law.Abe_froeman Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> particularly for those who seem to be living in the back of some of those run> down old white vansIn my (limited) experience, I think guys sleeping in white vans are often builders or labourers who have been working during the night (for shops, offices, stations, etc) and then catching a couple of hours sleep before they start their day jobs doing residential stuff... Peckhamrye
It is not an HMO because it is not intended for permanent occupation, it's envisioned that people will stay for a couple of nights. Completely different scenario. That's not to say I think it's a good idea but let's just be clear on what is being planned. peckham_ryu
The location doesn?t seem any stranger for tourists than the apparently popular Peckham Lodge (Best Western ?London Peckham?). As a hostel type, it?s similar to the ones in central areas like Kensington. As long as it?s cheaper and well marketed, no reason it can?t work. Now that you can get more sterling for your euro, it?s a good moment to attract European visitors. Hope ED will get a local boost, and welcome an interesting mix of people passing through.
