Wide awake - 3.30am St John and St Clements school playground security light is shining like some Colditz gun tower light straight into my bedroom, penetrating my curtains. Every so often they have it this bright. Maybe it's generally turned off. I will ring them in the morning but right now I feel it's light pollution, totally selfish and really annoying. Looking out the window it's lighting up the whole area around it. Is this even legal? Anyone else?

Huggers,I sympathise with your situation.

I live very close to Goodrich School. A few years ago they installed powerful floodlights which were linked to movement detectors. Every time an animal entered the school playground the lights would come on for about 10 minutes lighting up the local area and shining directly into one of our bedrooms. When the local animal population was particularly active the lights would come on and off throughout the night. The premises officer did kindly adjust one of the lights so it no longer shone directly into our bedroom but fortunately they have now replaced the system with a much lower level one which is on all night but doesn't bother us.

Hope you get an undisturbed night tonight.

Hi all, the head has got back to me and the sports lights were not turned off after an event last night. They Are hugely apologetic and will make sure staff know to turn them off after use. Thanks for your support and a good outcome, I think.

Hi Huggers,

The school also came back to me very quickly. They do not currently this FY have the budget to add a timer or sensor to ensure that even allowing for the odd human error they would go off. But this is something they would be willing to consider when the funds are available.
