As I understand it lists are drawn up entirely on the entrance criteria for each school, the school doesn't know (or care) where you placed them on the preference. One thing we were told (at Belham) is that if you're not in the top 1 or 2 places on the waiting list you are extremely unlikely to get in through the waiting list.

Thank you. That's really helpful.

The gist of my original post was, if anyone else is interested, does it matter where you originally put a school (i.e. 1st or 2nd) for the purpose of the waiting list? I'm sure you are absolutely right - it doesn't matter. The lady I spoke to at Southwark confirmed this too, although she did go on to say, do put your most wanted school first...

    • Hi mate,  Yeah its very frustrating for sure. Thanks for the advice, I’ve registered it and reported it to the police but they shut the case in a couple of hours, as you said not much they can do.    I’ve been looking around on sale website but I feel like its more stress than its worth unfortunately.

    • Tennis got really popular over the COVID period and all the clubs round here ended up with long waiting lists.   Put yourself on the list for all of them anyway, things might move faster than you think, definitely for Dulwich Sports as they may be about to get planning permission to build new courts.  Ask about off-peak membership if you work from home, it's often much easier to get and some clubs will give priority to off-peak members when full places come up.   In the meantime, most of the clubs on your list offer group and individual coaching to non-members with a guest fee.   And sign up for local tennis leagues which organises matches at all levels in the local parks - there's a league for Kennington and Brockwell Parks which is really good and a slightly gentler one for Belair and Dulwich Parks.  I did this for a couple of years and had a lot of fun.   https://www.lta.org.uk/compete/adult/local-tennis-leagues/
